Darren Sammy is the sort of guy the Windies need. Not a whole lot of talent, but heaps of grit and passion. He's like the Windies' Paul Collingwood, but the stupid Windies selectors can't seem to see that. Sometimes players need to be picked on character rather than just natural talent.

Bangladesh heading for victory definitely now, as they bloody well should be consiering the batting lineup against them. How on earth they let them get to 307 in the first innings I shall never know.
The WICB's leverage in negotiations is being blown away wicket by wicket and that can only be a good thing considering they plan to send this 4th XI to Australia in October.

I'm pretty sure both Cricket Australia and Channel Nine wouldn't allow that. They'll probably ask another team to tour instead, or make the series against Pakistan 5 tests.

Ashocka sends Walton on his way with yet another one that was going down leg (he also got an inside edge). Shocking umpiring but these guys really can't play even ordinary spin to save their lives. It really makes you appreciate the class of Sarwan and Chanderpaul.

Hell even a series defeat looks possible at the moment!
I just don't see a draw in this series given the fact that both sides are equal in strengths and carpness. There is no sign of any side scoring too much or holding out a whole day batting last for a draw. At the moment though, the Bangals hold the edge and possibly the momentum after the test. They could spring a 2-0 surprise.
A 1-1 series will be bad for WI. A 2-0 wipe out would be too disasterous! The seniors who walked out of the series will benefit immensely in which case, as the board may lose out on ammunition to punish them harsh.
If the home side wins the rubber comfortably, the strijking player will find themselves fighting the board for more months than they have counted on!
Damn. Missed out on some easy betting money here.....

Yep, well seen man.................................. I think a defeat will be good in the long run as the board are seriously considering moving on in the future with this lot only, which would be for the most part disastrous for our cricket.
A defeat will send the message that they can't seriously do without the striking players and therefore they have to go to the negotiating table and draw up contracts for the players.

This Test shows that just when you think the Windies - management/ team - couldn't make it any more farcical, they manage to find new ways.
It is painful for one who grew up worshiping the Windies legends of the 70s and 80s.
Perhaps they should start shooting WICB members for incompetence and thrashing the players for non performance.

Nice job by Bangladesh being in the unusual position of being favorite in a test. They asserted their superiority as the test went on. Hopefully the WICB will see reason and bring back the senior players or face our first ever home whitewash. (against Bangladesh FFS!!!)

Re: West Indies v Bangladesh, 1st Test, Kingstown, July 9-13
Yeah, congrats to all Bangladesh fans who have waited an awful long time for a test victory. I'm glad for them it's just a shame that it came at our expense and in the circumstances they did.
We have a few positives to take with us into the future as long as the senior squad is back sooner rather than later. Kemar Roach was the best bowler on show by miles, and that too on an extremely slow/low deck, while Sammy got his 2nd 5 wicket haul in 6 tests. Dave Bernard batted far better than I ever expected he could so congrats to him. Omar Phillips looks like a decent prospect but he's certainly not ready yet. Ryan Austin looks like a decent off spinner and comprehensively outbowled Miller (though Reifer did not give Miller enough overs).
I hope losing to Bangladesh will shame both sides and a compromise can be reached sooner rather than later. Lets also hope that the wicket in Grenada has a bit of grass left on it because even this lot could beat Bangladesh on a wicket like that.
Also I seriously hope the ICC were watching the umpiring in this match because it was absolutely terrible for both sides.

For the purposes of this match I think we qualify as a minnow. Floyd Reifer captained the team. Seriously.

Technically you are right, but any team with Reifer and Dowlin in it can safely be called a minnow IMHO. How the WICB/team management thought we could play against anyone with only 4 specialist batsman (only 2 of which can actually bat) I will never know.
I can only pray that we have something approaching a proper team for the 2nd test and restore some pride. It is extremely difficult being a West Indies fan at the moment.........

It wasn't long ago you were playing 8 of them in a Test side...WIFAN wrote:skully wrote:Wow!!! Congrats to the Bangers. A win against a non-minnow.

Precisely, they can never get it right can they? Our senior side is overly reliant on 4 batsmen ffs, how did they expect to cope with international cricket. It is a good job Bernard Jr and Sammy batted well because without them it would have been total humiliation (though arguably losing a Test to Bangladesh is pretty humiliating anyway, D team or not).

I have been limbering up, practicing in the nets but the WICB called me and said they couldn't afford to pay my travel arrangements from London - St Vincent
