Yeah!
I'll give Portal a go, but I'll be invoicing you all for 50p each if it's naff.

No way anyone could find it naff, it's one of those games that transcends genres, you can hate puzzle games (as I do) but it's difficult (if not impossible) to hate Portal.JKLever wrote:Yeah!

Half Life is one of the best FPS games I've ever played. Can't wait for Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Played the original monkey island game. loved it.
I love Lucasarts adventures - Grim Fandango is about as good as it gets - but for some reason I've never got hold of Monkey Island...
Aye, they were quality games - Sam and Max as well, but I just couldn't get over the Monkey Island games, they were splendid. I agree Grim Fandango was magic, but I go apeshit for Art Deco anyway - hence why I'm rocking Poirot so heavily of recent times.
Re: PC/Console games
You'd love some Bioshock then, Dan. Set in an underwater, Art Deco dystopia, where everyone is addicted to violence and drugs.
Good times.

Been a long time coming. Episode 2 was 2007.
Re: PC/Console games
It's awesome quality when it does come though. Still remember how addicted I was to the first half-life

Never played half-life either!
Saw a Bioshock playthrough the other day, looks very pretty.

Yeah that would be a valid excuse for not playing FIFA 04 or some similar shit. Not Half-Life. Get it now, buy an antique computer if need be.

The original Half Life is nearly a decade old now. Surprised you missed it first time around, as it totally redefined the first person shooter - forever.
For plot, atmosphere, twists, shocks and just sheer awesomeness, it's a winner. Has the smartest enemy AI I've ever seen in a game - they don't just stand around waiting for you to kill them, they'll flank you, try and flush you out with grenade attacks, run away to regroup, set traps.
It's so good. Graphics look a bit dated now, but the game is as good as ever.
Half Life 2 is even better. They improved on perfection. Except it's too short. Which is why they released Episode one, Episode two and (eventually) Episode three to fill it out.

Hmmmmm....
I was busy 'owning' all on Unreal tournament at that time.

Half life 2 was a good game but not out of this world, the whole thing on the bike/boat got repetitive and boring after a while.

I liked Vietcong, even though the gameplay was very clunky. I hope Activision can overhaul the Vietnam genre and make something worth playing.
Not many good games from that era out in the wilderness.

True, but what can you do when you are totally stuck, thats when i use walkthroughs. Ninja Gaiden - try playing that without any help.
Do what I do. Replay the level again and look for what could have been missed early on in the heat. I usually find out that I did miss something somewhere and it just adds to the fun.

I never liked Puzzle games too for some reason as well as those RPG ones. Might have to check Portals and see how it goes...

There is a difference between catching up on posts on a forum and playing a computer game. At least I am not stuck with you in a game, so re-visiting a part isn't really a problem.....
