It is taken seriously, when people are, in other people's opinions, racist/sexist/homophobic or whatever.

There's PLENTY to discuss in the world without even going near any of these topics, and if some (or most) people want to, then yes, others who don't like it will leave or 'flounce' (seems a popular derogatory word) if they feel what they want to say has to be said anyway before they go.

I don't like confrontation on a forum, where I don't need to read what I don't want to, or what I think will annoy me, but at times it gets to a stage when that's pretty much all there is, and only a small group of the regulars enjoy that. Which is fine. But of course people will 'leave' or post less. It's their choice and their beliefs.
