We are screwed. I wonder how Andrew Strauss is currently feeling sitting on his couch at home with a cup of tea?

Comfy? After having just given the lovely Ruth a Sunday morning seeing-to?

Trott's sounding very limited against the spinners.

He must have a few shots but I can't recall much else beyond on-drives & leg-side flicks. A South African John Crawley?

I think Jimmy has the best gig. He may need to "rest" until the Ashes starts again if you have a look at who's drinking coffee in bed with him. Here's Daniella Anderson:

Was Gower in a threesome with the barmaid? Gower was one of the few England players who didn't captain the side that summer. He got pwned by the Windies in 1984 and then again in 1985-6 when he lost every Test in both series. He was removed from the captaincy after losing the 1st Test against India in 1986 but was reappointed by Ted Dexter for the Ashes series in 1989.

I'm still not 100% convinced about Trott. Looked all at sea in South Africa against quick bowlers with a newish ball.

He should be at #4 or #5, but he gets shunted up and down to protect KP and Bell.

The problem is, there's about three or four guys in the England side who are better off batting at 4,5, and 6. We need someone who is at his best batting at three. In theory Pietersen and Bell have the best techniques. I'd like to see KP at three and Bell at four.

Strauss
Cook
Pietersen
Bell
Collingwood
Trott

Looks pretty good......in theory.

One flaw. Kev doesn't like batting at three, and his hackles rise when he is asked to go in that high.

Re an earlier post, I see Colin Bateman in the Express confirms what I suspected:

Tredwell admitted England were delighted to see the back of Tamim. “He strikes the ball cleanly with no fear and it was a hairy time at the start,” said the first off-spinner from Kent to represent England.

Tredwell stars as Cook lets it slip

Cook was clueless today. At least we know now that he's a shit captain before we thrust him into the top job during the ashes when Strauss breaks a finger. Just quietly I think Swanny would be a pretty decent captain. Perhaps.

Quietly? Swanny?

He'd certainly give the best send-offs.

The problem is that nobody can regularly captain their county before getting the England job these days, as they only get a couple of games a season for them once they are in the setup, so players don't get chance to build up that experience above say under-19 level.

Captains need to learn the job, and other than bringing in a captain from county cricket who is not worth his place as a batsman it's hard to see the solution. I thought Cook could perhaps have been given a winter off from the senior side and the captaincy of the Lions side to develop him in that regard.

In terms of this game - time to concentrate on not losing it now, forget it's Bangladesh and just remember there's a series to be won and a draw is a perfectly acceptable result.
