"Of course, Nein managed to dig up a couple of bogans from the current playing ranks at other clubs who thought 'a bit of biff is a good thing', "
Yeah - all straight out of Dullsville City Hall.
May have seen the footage in question. One bloke I saw, had a really dodgy car-salesman mo and had the Dermott Brereton 'smirk a lot and and talk out the side of the mouth' thing happening. Couldn't have looked less trustworthy if he'd tried.
Skully, the quarter time brawl from the 1990 GF between Collingwood and Essendon always gets a run, and if Carlton meet Collingwood in the finals you'll see Stan Magro forearm jolt Jezza across the windpipe (which wasn't even in a final) at least twice for each showing of the Jezza mark.

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
The AFL certainly does
Mal Brown was a Sandover Medallist and Captain Coach of an East Perth Premiership team
He played 17 VFL games for Richmond
His two most famous acts are singlehandedly punching out most of the Carlton team in the Australian Football Championships (an act he should have been Knighted for) and for starting and winning the battle of Windy Hill
They trot out the footage every season

Mal Brown is a legend. Even at Richmond.
Just ask him and he'll tell you. In fact, he'll still tell you even if you don't ask.
I'm kinda surprised he hasn't been quoted on the NRL brawl.

Cheers boys. So the Adminstrators think like the fans, and give them what they want? Color me shocked.embee wrote:The AFL certainly does

Anyone got a video of the Slater-Wolfman incident. Youtoob has nothing other than about 100 videos of the fight.

When he broke his neck?
Slater attempted to take him head-on ball-and-all as the Wolfman lunged towards the try line. Williams' head hit Slater in the sternum and must've telescoped his neck vertebrae. Looked pretty innocuous at the time and certainly nothing malicious from Slater.

Peter Peters was on the wireless on Sunday morning talking up Slater for his actions and saying what a shame it was that the fight has meant that a truly fine bit of sportsmanship has been overshadowed.

You forgot that Gallop is not in charge. The Nein network is, with a lot of 'help' from News Corp.

Playing up the 'biffo' might get a few knuckle-draggers along for the ride that mightn't bother otherwise....the real fans will watch however it's promoted. So net gain regardless..

Stewart in limbo as club's lawyer pulls out of fight night hearing
Glenn Jackson
September 1, 2011
''THAT'S final.'' With those words, which ended Glenn Stewart's legal counsel's involvement in the Manly forward's judiciary case but extended the fallout from the Battle of Brookvale last Friday night, rugby league's unprecedented week achieved another first.
The Sea Eagles, minus any legal representative, successfully applied last night for a 24-hour adjournment after lifelong Manly fan Christopher Branson QC, nicknamed ''The Bat'', quit, having unsuccessfully applied for a delay of the hearing himself.
Afterwards, Manly chairman Scott Penn maintained the Sea Eagles planned to proceed with their original plea of not guilty at tonight's rescheduled judiciary hearing, although, having hired former judiciary chairman Alan Sullivan QC as Stewart's new counsel, they would reassess their defence this morning. Penn was forced to apologise for continuing the fallout from last Friday night's spiteful match.

The current judiciary chairman, Paul Conlon, was sympathetic, directing his criticism at Branson, saying he had left the Sea Eagles ''high and dry''.
He reluctantly allowed the hearing to proceed tonight, with the same three-man panel of former players, Mark Coyne, Sean Garlick and Michael Buettner - who handed Melbourne forward Adam Blair a three-match suspension last night - to decide his fate.
Conlon said during the adjournment application that he had exchanged verbal and written communication with Branson on Tuesday. He said ''in initial communications … he thought it was inappropriate to enter any plea''. Conlon also said he had received an email from Branson, which read: ''What is the NRL case against Glenn Stewart? I have no idea.'' Later, Branson had ''indicated the matter would not be ready to proceed''.
''Yesterday [Tuesday], when I spoke to him, he certainly did not indicate there was any question about his ability to proceed,'' Conlon said. ''There was some surprise when I learnt this afternoon he was claiming he was not ready to proceed.''
Penn said in his submission: ''We do believe we have mitigating circumstances. We were in dialogue with Christopher Branson QC until lunchtime today [yesterday]. He did not believe he had enough time to prove the case. From the club's point of view, we did not believe that was appropriate. At around lunchtime, we received an email from Mr Branson withdrawing his counsel from the club.''
Penn handed Conlon an email exchange between an unidentified club official and Branson. One read: ''That's final.''
Branson had given no indication that he was not fully prepared when he told the Herald on Tuesday: ''I won't prejudge the tribunal, but I believe our case has got a lot of merit. We won't be pleading guilty. We will be arguing that the charge should be dismissed. We will get to the bottom of it in the usual way, and I'm confident justice will be done.''
He argued that Stewart should never have been sin-binned. The sideline fight between Stewart and Blair began as the pair clashed while heading towards the Brookvale Oval tunnel after both were binned.
Admitting the Sea Eagles had been left high and dry, Conlon said: ''The only person to suffer under the circumstances [if the adjournment was not allowed] would be the player concerned. It's obvious he needs the benefit of appropriate legal advice, and I hope he gets that tomorrow.''
After the remarkable twist last night, Penn said: ''I'd like to thank the judiciary for hearing our application to adjourn this matter for 24 hours. The Manly Sea Eagles - as a club, we had some legal representation issues today, which were unforeseen.''
Asked if Stewart would still plead not guilty to the referred contrary conduct charge, Penn said: ''At this stage, that's certainly the plea that we've put in, and we'll be reviewing that overnight and we'll be meeting in the morning.''

What a pack of bogans Manly are. Whether the bald Stewart should have been sin binned or not is garquen irrelevant. After the binning he waited on the sideline for Blair to catch up with him. He said something that drew the "Let's get it on" response from Blair, Blair shoved him and Stewart threw the first punch, sparking the ugly, all-in-including-bench-and-officials-brawl. He is probably more guilty of producing the ugliest part of the brawl than anyone. Out for the season for mine.

Stoopid Filth have no leg to stand on with their alleged defence being that Stewart should not have been sin-binned in the first place. The judiciary has said they can only rule on the side-line incident. Stewart will be gone for 3 weeks minimum fer sher as the judiciary has ruled that Blair ws not the initial aggressor i.e. Stewart threw the first punch.

They have a persecution complex, h. They correctly think everyone hates them, so they lamely attempt to fight the "injustice" of it all, and then when they lose, cry like stuck pigs. The way they have continued to carry on over the Brett Stewart affair is just bilious.
I don't use the word "hate" in my vocabulary, but Manly (and the current Federal Govt) come closest to getting me to use it.

Ironically, the next PM is the local MP for the Manly club. No wonder everyone hates him too.

PMSL at the Coastal Filth. They've now changed Stewart's plea to "guilty but I didn't really do anything wrong and it was that big mean Adam Blair that provoked me to throw the 1st punch".
