Man Utd short of answers in attack. Will Berbagod make the difference?

Mata puts Chelsea in front against QPR.

Aye, only five teams will play (all from Bengal). The five 'icon' players are Crespo, Cannavaro, Pires, Okocha and Fowler. I think Sorin went unsold.
As long as it doesn't usurp the real I league, then it's okay for generating some publicity.
Can't find the full list of players bought.

Fowler? As in Robbie Fowler?
If he manages more than 5 minutes I'll be shocked.

The same- Perth Glory's legend. He received around half a million dollars for a tiny gig in India. Considering that the pay should be pro rata, the franchise owners must have the same feeling about him.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Half a million is a couple of weeks wages for a top footballer. Can't see how this is going to attract anyone decent/not well past it.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
I don't think that's the aim either. I'm sure more people will come out to watch Fowler and Cannavaro than Chika Wali and Okolie Odafa. As much as I'd rather see the real league be the only league, Indian football needs any newspaper space that it can muster.

Fair enough, but I can't see it attracting any interest outside of India.

Even it attracts a passing interest in India then surely it'd be a success.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Yes, that's what the main aim apparently is and that's why I'm not against this, unlike the IPL.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Bit of a tangent, but what about Redknapp eh?
He does come across as a bit of a dodgy geezer, but I can't see why he would risk going to jail to save £30,000. That's obviously a sh!t load of money to the likes of us, but I imagine he earns more than that in a week.

Aye, he reckons he always pays too much rather than too little. I can't see him doing it myself, as you say he's most likely one of the higher paid managers in England.

Errrrrm, 'e's not dodgy, mate .... coz 'e's from the east end of Larndun.
'e said so 'imself, 'e did.
Yeah yeah yeah ...... like f**k he isn't!
Naming a Monte Carlo (or was it Swiss?) bank account (with £300,000 in it) after his doggie Rosie ...and then not reporting/declaring its existance to the authorities ?!!
I mean W.T.F. ?
Think if he's rapped on this charge, he's done for where the England managers job is concerned.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Aye agreed he'll be done, after hearing the situation, it sounds dodgier than I first thought.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
If he is guilty then he's one of the stupidest men in England.
As I've said, I'd be suprised if 30k is even half of his weekly wage. It just seems unfathomable that he would risk so much over so little (relative to his wage).
Even when he was at Portsmouth I doubt whether that amount of money was a big deal.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Apparently it could be up to millions, though, for his helping Mandaric. So there'd have been quite a bit he syphoned off for himself. As I say, the more the trial goes on the dodgier it's looking.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Ah right fair one. I can't be arsed to read up on it so my opinions are probably best left for when chatting to weirdos the pub.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
Am I the only one thinking that Redknapp is the one who got caught rather than the only one who took bungs? Transfers and football finances seem as shady as Lalit Modi. Isn't Ken Bates just as shady as Mandaric?

I would have thought that if guilty he would be the most high profile. I just can't see the likes of Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho etc. of having the need.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12
I'm not talking just English football here, Spanish and Italian football are shady as fark.
If the top clubs were clean, why don't they disclose the monetary value of the transfers to the media? It's not the same as this but the larger issue of possible corruption in football. Just a thought.

Fergie just got Fergie Jnr to act as the "broker's agent" on the juicy deals involving The Scum ....
So he dumped on interviews with the BBC for 2 years when they confronted him with the allegation ...
Funny that ...........
