Sounds like a fair knock from Pup. 100 in just about the same number of balls in tough conditions is leading from the front. Unfortch only Bog and Midge gave him any support. Garquen useless middle-lower order.
I said last night that Too-Fitty would be a decent tally on this deck and it may not be far from the mark.

Ugh, 2 late wickets.
WTF was Harris doing with 2 balls to go.
And surely this is the end of Haddin.

What a horrible day, with only Clarke making runs ... bizarre really.
Hopefully we can winkle another 30 or 40 runs, and then bowl well.NB Mitch - please hold the dross.

The wicket looked sub standard for a test strip. Lots of irregular bounce. I'm suprised there were only two LB's.

He has a blooody impressive FC record for someone just making their test debut. 250 wickets at just over 20. Feck, that's an impressive record for anyone
Any reason why it took so long to get him in the side, or is it just that the saffie FC comp is bowler friendly?

Aye, Stale Dane's really class... I see Clarke has been making some runs... he's now 'the man'.
Nope. Nothing to see there. Wait, I lie a little. I listened to some JAMODIS on the old TMS over the summer on my days off. Them's be England v India. Or SL?
I haven't seen any cricket for over a year probably now. I've missed all these people (person), like Steyn, getting awesome.
Plus, there are actual children playing the international game these days. How do you take them seriously?

I would have thought a schoolgirl like Watto doing well would be an inspiration for women cricketers everywhere

O Mother Australia, I pray you, call upon the mighty shaman they call "JGK" to foretell a thunderous innings victory for the South Africans.
It is your only remaining hope.

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Cape Town, 9-13 November, 2011
Just watched the highlights up until the Tea break. Thoughts...
- Brilliant knock from Pup. He really was on his game on a very sporting deck.
- Watto, Fuse and Bog all got very good balls and couldn't do much about them.
- Drunky played around a straight one that he would've normally punched to the midwicket boundary.
- Bog looked really good from 0-20, then struggled but battled hard for the next 10 runs while Pup was smashing 'em at the other end, then found his form again to move fluently from 30-44 before Stain got him with a beautiful late inswinger. Totally wasted referral by Bog, as it was plump.
- Stain is class.
- taips' assessment of the Philanderer is probably correct. With his Fat Sammy Patel build he looks an unlikely Test 1st change Test bowler (he took the new ball), but he hit the seam and used the conditions well. On a flat deck he will be a pie-purveyor.
- The wicket is covered in little white skid marks, so hopefully there'll still be a bit of life in it tonight. Rhino could be very dangerous if so.
- Fat Jack bowled tripe, as did Tahir.
- The wicket is also a bit up and down and could be a nightmare in the last innings for the Saffies, if we can contain them in their 1st dig.
Off to watch the post-Tea collapse.

How long until Paine's finger is right or do we just send any bloke who owns his own gloves and knows which end of the bat to hang onto over to replace Haddin ?

He got a positive report from the Surgeon after his last OP but i don't think he has started training yet. If Haddit gets any more dire they might have to look to Wade, at least in the short term.
Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Cape Town, 9-13 November, 2011
Time for Wade.
Actually Taipan SA did show signs of being underdone. Morkel was filth most of the time, Kallis was a veritable pie chucker and Tahir looked poor. Steyn was bordering on unplayable for most of his spells, while Philander mixed some rubbish in with some impressive line and length and challenging deliveries. Agree though that he might struggle in benign conditions. Mind you, post-lunch the pitch certainly settled down.
Clarke only really received support from Marsh. The worst offenders were Haddin, Harris and Johnson (though that's his game) as Watson, Hughes and Hussey all received very good balls.
Kallis's bowling has been deteriorating for a while; he looked poor in the ODIs. It's virtually a myth now that SA has a five pronged attack as he's serving gourmet pies on a regular basis. In fact after Clarke had been roughed up by Steyn, it was Kallis who released the shackles; Australia could have been staring down the barrel of a well below par total without the corpulent one waddling to the bowling crease. Great innings from Clarke in the context of the match!!
Steyn is classy and rhythmic.

Re: South Africa v Australia, 1st Test, Cape Town, 9-13 November, 2011
Thoughts on post-Tea highlights...
- As good as any Test ton Pup has scored.
- Paris was a bit stiff when he got one of the few good balls that the Ostrich bowled. It cut back and kept a little low, but Paris was in good enogh form to get an inside feather to it.
- Haddit played an awful shot and looks past his used-by date.
- Midge batted very well and looked set for plenty more until he swiped a slow, wide long hop from the Philanderer to mid-on
- Rhino was doing it easy until playing a similarly dreadful shot off the same bowler.
- ABdV tweaked his back and stung his bad hand. Wouldn't surprise me if he was very stiff tonight.
- Under the conditions, 8-214 could have been a whole lot worse.
It'd be very useful if we could scrape another 20 or 30, as Two-Fitty will be competitive, on a wicket that could be very hard to bat on 4th.

They'll let Haddin play out the series, a little more time for Timmy's finger to heal, then get him in the Test side for the summer.embee wrote:How long until Paine's finger is right or do we just send any bloke who owns his own gloves and knows which end of the bat to hang onto over to replace Haddin ?
