Fark me sideways - Wigan beat Arsenal 2 - 1! Four more points and they should be safe. Villa getting sucked into the mire, which can only be a good thing.

Real Madrid got lucky, only a 2-1 defeat. Should have been well more than that. Sergio Ramos is the most overrated carp in football, surely.
Reading should be getting a promotion too.

He turned out to be one of the only real world class players we have, an exceptional keeper.

Real were just bad after they equalised. Gave Bayern too much of the ball not to lose the match.

I wouldn't go so far as calling him world class, but certainly a good Asian keeper. His handling of crosses, for example, was very dodgy in his prime. Karanjit has replaced him now and isn't worse than him at all.doremi wrote:He turned out to be one of the only real world class players we have, an exceptional keeper.

Well played Reading. Nice club.
Come on, the Saints. Done your best to choke the living shit out of it, but you're only one win away now. Do it for the neutrals, if no-one else - so they don't have to spend one second of watching a f*cking Sam Allardyce side hoof their way through the Premier League like a bunch of cavemen.

Another draw. I've seen more sh** drawing this fu*king year than Stephen Hawking's art teacher.

Can't stand the bloke. Thinks he's the world's greatest manager. If you ever have the misfortune to listen to one of his post-match interviews, you'll note that he takes all the credit for successes, but blames his players entirely for any failures. Apart from when it's the ref's fault.
After the recent game with Birmingham in which Wet Sham went in at half time 3-1 down, he lamented: "They did exactly what I told them not to. I told them not to concede early goals. I must've been speaking Swahili or something." (or words to that effect)
I love that, in his gigantically oversized head, he considers "don't concede any goals" a tactical insight that he can enlighten his players with. It's probably right up there with "try harder" and "score more".
Twat.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
Dislike the qunt, to think that he was being talked of as a possible England coach. His tactics board must just have one line saying- score one more than the opposition, and will lament the players' lack of comprehension of his tactics if unsuccessful.

Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
So, Abramovich spends a decade or so hiring and firing world renowned managers who fail to land him the Champions League, then someone who stumbles into the job pretty much by accident goes and wins it. Couldn't happen... could it?
How they went from the disorganised rabble of earlier in the season to shutting down Messi and co for 90 minutes is one of football's great mysteries. They rode their luck a bit but a goal next week leaves Barca needing 3.

They'll get mullered at the Nou Camp.
They should've shipped six tonight.
Still, stranger things have happened. Probably.

Oh, the Saints.
Frankly, they've been useless for the past month or so. They'll embarrass themselves next season, if they're in the Premier League.
Ref was bent as anything, mind.
Anyway, if they can't beat a relegated Coventry at home in their last game, they don't deserve to go up. Couldn't have been handed to them on a plate any more.

But, but, but... all the experts were telling me Barcelona were the greatest side in the history of football and I should feel privileged to be living in an era where I can watch them play. They told me. Insisted.
Weird, then, that they're seven points behind Real Madrid and on a knife-edge of getting knocked out of the CL to the team currently sixth in the Premier League.
It's almost as though a little hyperbole has been employed.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
There was a bloke on the radio here in Aus this morning saying the A-League Grand Final (on right now, I'm not watching it, just couldn't GAF, like approximately 19.9 million Aussies) was shaping up to be a bit like El Clasico. I kid you not. I suppose eacj team will have eleven players on the pitch at the start of the match means there's some truth to the statement, but honestly, how any match in a fourth-rate league like Australia's can be compared to La Liga is a bit beyond me.Dello wrote:tricycle wrote:Real Madrid winning the two match league now.

Of course, the host of the prorgam, not to be outdone, said Brisbane were a bit like Barcelona. Well, there's a B, an r, an e and an n in both names. And if you squint, and look on a bit of an angle...
That, Jay, is hyperbole.

I saw about five seconds of the Hyundai A-League KFC Always Ultra final while flipping through the channels a moment ago.
Think it was on Sky Sports One. Which is the same channel El Clasico was on last night.
So, another undeniable likeness.

A League = El Classico?
Does El Classico mean Bristol Rovers v Burton?
