Well until Newcastle screw everything it will be a sweet few days for every anti-United supporter.

City have a tireless performance by Yaya to thank for the win, he was everywhere. The best performance I've seen Zabaleta have, as well, decent positional play and tenacious effort.

"Back at the top where we belong" said a friend of mine a few weeks ago.
Can't decide what to say to him yet. Might wait a couple of weeks.

Aye, the title race isn't over. It's only goal difference at the minute. Either team can f*ck it up yet.

Sage. But I suspect a liverpool kiss and a knee in the balls from the filthy Scot may have laid out the manicured Mancini.G.Wood wrote:Boooo the fourth official for stopping SAF and Mancini from punching on

Defence has been leaky as fark all season. Hopefully they have a few more leaks up their sleeve yet. Fergie will be on the phone to the Refs Association organising dodgy penalties now.Brass Monkey wrote:Kompany completely unmarked from a corner, pretty shambolic by United... paid the price for leaving two men up.

Five minutes Fergie time at the end. What a sham!

Given that Yaya Toure is the highest paid player in the Premier League, I'd f*cking expect him to put in a shift.
Still find it weird that City think he's some kind of attacking midfielder when he's really quite poor on the ball. Sure, he runs a lot. But you'd think a bit of technical quality would be a prerequisite for someone in such an advanced position.
Then again, United play Park in all of their big games, and he must be the least technically adept footballer in the world. What does he do?
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
From a neutral perspective, it was a pretty disappointing game, truth be told. Would have been far more interesting had Fergie and Mancini got into some fisticuffs on the sideline.

Jeez, Citeh dominated possession. Did Scum get a shot at goal in during the whole game?

I'd say that his link-up play is pretty much spot on. OK, it's spot on because he's got two livewires up front but my point being he's as effectual as he needs to be within that side. What he does bring cannot be bought - such immense strength on the ball and a powerful pace to his runs which make him incredibly hard to stop. His overall package make up for the technical shortcomings.
Whereas Park has always been plain shit, nothing to him, IMO. He's wangled a career.
If we're going to talk about shite, I'm not sure I've seen such poor positioning from a forward than Aguero last night and generally this season... the teammates seem to get the blame, but honestly, he's barely ever in the right position unless he's dropping back to get the ball.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
On another note, someone needs to tell Liam Gallagher that he hasn't been cool for nearly 20 years.

He's scored a fair few this season, to be fair. And City have a weird set up where Aguero is sometimes on the right flank, sometimes left, sometimes through the middle, sometimes the apex, sometimes dropping deep.
I'd cut him some slack. But, then, I'm not such an uncompromising bastard.
If you want to see really terrible positioning and movement watch Theo "run away" Walcott for a game or two.
Every time he gets the ball (assuming he can control it within three touches), he waits for his full back to come along and bail him out, passes it in his general direction, and just runs away.
Not into space. Not looking for an incisive one-two. Just gets the f*ck out of there, as if the ball's going to give him AIDS.
Players aren't mic'd up - yet - but I imagine his running away is accompanied by a high pitched squealing sound. And some flappy hands.
Thinks he's a striker. He's always banging on about how he's not really playing in his proper position and can't wait to be "unleashed" through the middle. Dream on. Arsenal gave him a half up front earlier in the season, and he just vanished. Didn't want the ball. Didn't show for it. Didn't run in behind the defence. Didn't do a thing.
Except when the ball came near him. Then he ran away.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
To be fair? Uncompromising bastard? Phurtography.
I'm not saying he's a shit player. There's no real slack to be cut, IMO.
I'm saying he's incredibly lucky that a) he's basically played on his own up front, b) lucky that he plays in a team that creates a lot of opportunities and c) that he's talented enough to take it past two players and/or bang it in from long range because he'd be much less fruitful were it not the case. Using the Theo Walcott argument won't work - he's just shite full-stop.

A) isn't really accurate. He's been mixing it up in the forward slots alongside Dzeko, Bollocktaxi all season, and lately Tevez.
B) 29, 27, 19, 21, 27 - his goal haul for the last five seasons. Presumably he was also only lucky to be playing for a mid-table Athletico Madrid side that were creating millions of chances for him. Career goalscoring ratio of nearly a goal every other game.
C) It wasn't really a Theo Walcott argument. Just thought I'd shoe-horn in a Walcott smack down to try and keep the thread going and save you the embarrassment of having killed it stone dead with your pub landlord ramblings.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
a) He's always the highest up the pitch, he's the man the final balls always come to (if he's there, usually he's drifted off into the most wrong of positions).
b) Spanish defences.
c) Aye, he deserves regular digs.

Sol Campbell's announced his retirement.
Yeah, I had no idea he was still playing either.
Hasn't been with a club in eleven months. I guess he's taken the hint.
Absolute monster in his day. Appalling on the ball, but that wasn't his USP.

Also holds the world record for the longest sliding tackle in history.
Some say he's still sliding.

Sulzeer Jeremiah was an absolute titan in his day, him and Tone Adams for half a year was dreamteam style.
The twat thing about the man in question is he was no longer good enough for the Prem - but wanted Prem wages. Even though he's filthy rich. Twat. Dick. Qunt.
