F*cking shinned it.
People shouldn't be allowed to vote on stuff. They're morons.

The juggling goal against Newcastle was the best. People went apeship over Gazza's goal against Scotland, but that was only half as good.
You do wonder what kind of player Le Tissier could have been if he'd been born into an era when players were forced to be fit and agile (or he'd joined a club that didn't indulge his indulgences quite so much). Assuming he didn't bomb out as a youngster, he might've been a worldy.
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
I've no doubt. It's not just those goals... they were just what I could be bothered to look up in a 20 second period... loads more. It wasn't just his goals anyway, I saw him play target man a few times, was pretty strong with his back to goal and he was near enough as adept with his passing as he was with his shooting. Also he's a folk hero for smashing 'Mazza' out of Home and Away.

What is this, an interrogation? Don't eke it out then f*ck-knuckles
Re: The Football Thread - 2011/12 (II)
My godfather used to live next door to him. Being a Southampton fan he pretty much jizzed himself every day.

I was just thinking out loud, wondering if I could be arsed typing it out.
To be honest, he's very much a peripheral character in the anecdote. Some may even suggest it has nothing to do with him and I'm guilty of false advertising.

Abridged version: story, story, story. Oh, and Matt Le Tissier walked by.

Well if we're going to do this, I once saw a celebrity at a restaurant.
Can't remember his name though. Could have been a she actually.

We're not doing this. Not at all. Dello was in context. If we're doing it, there's a ready made thread some years back.......

I met former England and Arsenal midfielder David Rocastle once. And then he died. Years later.

I went to Pauline Quirke's house once. She and her family really do eat a f*ck load of cake.

Late to the party as usual but have just seen the 3 allegedly greatest goals in the 20 years (before this season) of the EPL. Hmm, all good, but I can think of plenty of others that deserved a mention along side those 3. Still, when 300,000 Scum supporters vote, there's not much chance of Rooney's not being no. 1.

Erik Edman's goal against Liverpool is still the one that stands out for me.

Publicity contests in sport masquerading as a search for 'the best' invariably produce the wrong result. Even more so when there's a team of ferals as supporters.

Same with every poll. Always, always massively bias towards more recent events. Music polls are the worst I think, you'll always have The Smiths, The Beatles, Led Zep and the Rolling Stones in there somewhere whilst 80% will be of bands from the past 20 years (and lets face it, the last 10 years have been diabolical for music).Zat wrote:Publicity contestsin sport masqueradingas a search for 'the best' invariably produce the wrong result. Arsenal absolutely hopeless against Norwich (h/t).
Awful attitude from a team who fancy themselves as title challengers. The majority of them are out for a midday stroll.
Only one team playing to win this. Embarrassing.

As long as they're the only ones who fancy themselves. Trailing to a team that Liverpool beat.

Interesting how short people's memories are. This was the top 10 from just 3 years ago. And I would argue that Rooney's shine-drive doesn't match many of them. Di Canio's and Poyet's volleys are so clean if not cleaner than Rooney's. No doubting Rooney's was a great goal, but no. 1???

Rooney's was a bit of a shinner though. I'm not sure that's even his best goal, and if it were, the Rodrigo Taddei has scored the best goals in football history, at least his were off the foot.
