Re: The Walking Dead
Well, I've just watched the series return......
- Spoiler:
- So yeah.......I think it's safe to say the show has well and truly peaked. 45 minutes of dross, really. Focussing only on Rick and Carl, and Michonne. Nothing is developed, nothing is revealed, nothing progresses. That the writers have run out of ideas couldn't have been made more obvious.
For about 15 bizarre minutes we are left wondering whether main character Rick is actually dead. And the fact that Carl doesn't seem to care makes it even weirder. But then Rick isn't actually dead....he just couldn't wake up despite Carl shaking him and shaking him, and Michonne finds them at the end. And....that's about it. They killed a few walkers...Carl eats a whole can of chocolate pudding by himself......umm...yeah, that's about it.
I'll give it one more episode, but if that's equally awful, I'll pull the plug.

Re: The Walking Dead
S04E09 – After. It’s the Carl Grimes Show.
Very harsh, Trev. I liked it. It reset the Rick/Carl relationship and gave us some of Michonne's backstory.
- Spoiler:
- Michonne de-arms & de-jaws a couple of walkers for a zombie forcefield and heads into the prison grounds. She stabs Herschel’s ruminating head.
Fleeing (well, staggering) Carl & Rick happen upon a BBQ joint. Carl ain’t taken no shit from Rick & begins establishing himself as the Alpha male. They kill Joe Snr & collect supplies (which there is naturally still plenty of).
Up the road a bit they find a nice house. Carl allows himself a momentary smile when he finds a teenager’s wet dream of a room (video games, guitar, comics, books, etc). They make a fort of the room. Carl is mighty angry about life. Wheezy Rick checks his gut wounds.
Michonne comes across Rick & Carl’s tracks in the mud but ignores them.
Flashback to pre-apocalypse. Michonne is with young son, boyfriend and brother, shooting the breeze about an art show they just attended. Bahahahahaha, her katana goes in the knife block with all the other stay-sharps!!! The peaceful picture morphs into a depressing post-apocapyse scene, & suddenly the two guys have no arms. Michonne is nightmaring.
Next morning Carl wakes but can’t raise his exhausted Dad. Walkers bang at the door, so he attracts them away but is almost jumped from behind as he walks backwards. He ends up with 3 zombies on top of him after having to use all his bullets on them. He spews after extracting himself.
Back at the house, Carl vents his spleen at the unconscious Rick. He resents farmer Rick hiding in the prison while the Guv plotted the attack, & blames him for the death of their family & friends. He finishes with “I’d be fine if you died”. He heads out into suburbia on his own.
At another house Carl locks horns with a very persistent walker & barely escapes its clutches. On the door of the room he escaped from he writes in chalk “Walker inside. Got my shoe. Didn’t get me” with a smile. He then sits on the roof eating a giant can of chocolate pudding, looking out over the empty suburban streets.
Michonne & her shield have attracted a mindless hoard. She can’t take their moaning & snarling anymore & beheads the lot of ‘em. She realises she needs human contact & heads back to the tracks she found earlier.
In a powerful scene back at the 1st house, Rick stirs. Carl thinks his Dad is now a zombie, but can’t bring himself to shoot him. He drops his gun & says “just do it”. But Rick rasps out some words & collapses again. Carl admits to himself that he was wrong. He needs his Dad.
Ep ends with Michonne gratefully tracking down Rick & Carl in their new house.
Very harsh, Trev. I liked it. It reset the Rick/Carl relationship and gave us some of Michonne's backstory.
- Spoiler:
- It seems Mike (her boyfriend and father of her son) killed himself and their son. Hence Michonne's soliloquy at Joe's BBQ joint near the end.

As soon as Carl started walking backwards, baiting the walkers, you knew something would go wrong. Mainly because they did that exact same scene in season 1.

Doesn't matter. They all have the special TV guns that carry unlimited ammunition.

Made the mistake of watching this straight after watching the latest episode of True Detective (04), which was some next-level, too-good-for-tv shit, which escalated to a brilliant climactic, six minute, unbroken tracking shot of absolute chaos and tension.
Then I watched Carl bumble around like a spaz, predictably tripping over his feet and blowing raspberries at daddy.
Incredibly lightweight. The comparison was a bit embarrassing, really.

Re: The Walking Dead
S04E10 – Inmates. OK.
- Spoiler:
- Last week was about Team 1 – Rick, Carl & Michonne.
Team 2 – Daryl & Beth - track other members of the prison family. Beth begins to lose hope when they find walkers chowing down on some folk beside the railway.
Team 3 – Carol’s girls, Tyreese & Judith – stagger blindly through the woods, with Judith whining all the way. A bird startles Mika, & she scarpers off into the bush. Lizzie, who’s a hard-arse, blames Tyreese. But they find her & have a bonding moment. Tyreese then leaves them in the woods to look for help. Lizzie has had a gutful of Judith’s bawling & tries to smother her.
Tyreese comes across the "before" moment of the scene Daryl & Beth found beside the railway line. Tyreese chops down walkers but can’t save the humans being attacked. Walkers approach the girls & Mika fires a shot, but Tyreese has his hands full. Next thing, the girls walk out of the bush, yup, with Carol holding Judith.
The last dying member of the railway line group tells them to follow the tracks – it’ll take them to a safe place. So Team 3 is now Tyreese, Carol & girls. Turns out Carol was near the prison when the final battle happened.
Team 4 – Maggie, Sasha & Bob – catch breath beside a creek. They head off to look for the bus & find it just up the road – full of walkers. But Glenn's not amongst them.
Cut to Glenn. Turns out he didn’t even escape the prison. He finds a quite spot to have a tender sook about Maggie, then dons riot gear & fights through the hoard. He then finds Tara sooking in a corner, but revs her up to help them both escape.
On the road, Glenn learns that the Guv killed Hershel. He bites his lip to the apologies of Tara, & tells her she is gonna help him find Maggie. They then take down a mini-hoard. As Tara takes her anger out on a walker skull, an armoured truck pulls up & out step an inbred family of rednecks.

Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- More meh-ness. I see what they're doing here. Using up episodes following each separated group, before the inevitable teary reunion. They'll set up camp at this army base that was mentioned at the end, before one way or another it all goes to hell once again and they're back on the road.
And just when you thought Beth had finally made herself useful by saving the baby, it turns out it wasn't her who saved the little one at all and she's still just the most pointless, whiny, annoying TV character of all time.
She's like the Jade Dernbach of the Walking Dead- Everyone is asking- "Why??"

Poor lovely, sing-y, suicide-y, diary-write-y Beth.
She's a survivor. No-one knows how. But she is.
Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- Nice to see Michael Cudlitz from Southland rock up as Army Man, presumably a major future character. He makes a pretty good badass, so I'd expect him to bring the badassery as we go along.
Agree with Mudge - we're just killing time, treading water until the next "era", which I guess will be the military base (are we regurgitating Day of the Dead now?). I imagine we'll lose a few along the way - my money's on the characters whose names I still don't know. Alcoholic Guy, Sister of Governor's Brief Love Interest Woman, The Whiney Kid Who Isn't The Psycho. And probably Beth. Although she's glided her way through the zombie apocalypse this long without so much as a clue, maybe she'll end up being the last one standing.
Re: The Walking Dead
S4 E11
- Spoiler:
- "The one where Rick hides under the bed for half an hour"
Not content with his previous difficult episode two weeks ago, where he spent it all unconscious, Rick excelled in a bit of hide and seek this time around.
Yep. That was the main plot.
The subplot introduced us to three hilarious caricatures: the jumped up military man (with a weird dye job) who I predict will at some point smoke a massive cigar, the improbably scantily clad military man's girlfriend, and Bill Hicks, playing a scientist who knows all the answers behind the zombie apocalypse but has aspergers or something that makes him borderline retarded and a racing certainty to be Walker chow in no time.
In spite of surviving the pandemic thus far with, presumably, a combination of wit, cunning and good old common sense, it only takes the newbies one episode to literally shoot themselves in the foot (all right, the truck) and completely destroy their mission - which was going swimmingly until we met them. Now they're idiots. Because that's how the show works.
Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- "He's a scientist. He knows how all this started. We're going to Washington. We're gonna save the World!"
I was so full of hope. They were so close. Three hours of driving...they must have been close to the border, and I'm sure everything's fine outside Georgia, as we'll discover in season 8 or whenever. F*cking Glenn. Kept the whole thing in limbo because he wants to find his hastily married, emotionally scarred, unlikely wife. C*nt.
And can Rick get the f*ck better already? His bashed up face, tatty clothes, and perpetual sweating and shivering is really starting to get on my nerves. Pull it together man! C*nt.

S4 E11
- Spoiler:
- "The one where I think I must've downloaded Dawson's Creek or some shit"
Daryl and Beth mooch around and talk about their feelings.
The end.

Awful episode. Last week's episode was better, and gave me slight hope, but this was a case of one step forward, two steps back.

Re: The Walking Dead
- Spoiler:
- I agree that these "establishment of the new smaller teams" episodes are pretty tedious. Some pre-"turn" backstory is OK, but not for whole episodes. I half expected young Beth to get snotted on moonshine and jump Daryl's bones as S04E12 unfolded.
Agree with Trev, E11 (the Rick-stuck-under-the-bed ep) was slightly more entertaining, with some tension.

Re: The Walking Dead
It's just filler. The whole backend of this season has been. And will be until they all (give or take) inevitably end up at the next major location (after the farm, prison, Woodbury) for next season's setting, presumably "Sanctuary", which we'll get a brief glimpse of only in the finale.
Bit limp.

Re: The Walking Dead
"You think I'm just another dead girl, don't you. You can't believe that I've survived this long when others have died."
Beth finally acknowledges what the World has been thinking for two years.

Re: The Walking Dead
She'll be gone before the season's out. Three seasons in and they've only just now decided to give her a personality and some lines. That's classic Walker-chow foreshadowing.
Re: The Walking Dead
I'd rather Daryl kills her with his crossbow in a moonshine-induced rage after she wanders off again and he has to save her from walkers....again.
Surely Beth and Carl will hook up eventually and have stupid, pointless, petulant, but extremely lucky babies.
