Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
Looks like there were 9 GB medallists born outside the British Isles.
Nationality is a lot more than just place of birth though (Bradley Wiggins is no more Belgian than any of us really), which is why sport needs to use common sense in where lines are drawn. What I hate is people changing nationality for financial or arbitrary reasons mid-career, you should make your choice at an early age and stick with it.

Why? On the hearsay being quoted here?

I'm not sure. I agree you don't want a system of shifting mercenaries, first playing for one country then another (then another) .... partly because it demotivates the locals and young hopefuls.
But I am not against residence criteria.
TO me, the main thing is that you show your heart is in playing and trying to win for your present team. I don't know if Hick's international career was affected by any doubt on that score, or was affected by the long years of waiting and consequent pressure he felt to make the most of a limited number of years ... or whether it was a purely individual temperament problem.
But it's a bit absurd to have someone in your team, however good he may be sporadically, who feels emotionally alienated from it for whatever reason. It's not just about the scores of an individual, it's the atmosphere, morale, teamwork, performance of the team as a whole.

Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
Has anyone actually found out in England what was in those incriminating text messages? For all one knows it might be just plain jokes on players like people make most of the time. If he was squealing team plans and giving them Saffers tips it would be another thing coming. Unless MI6 was secretly watching and monitoring all ghis communications, I don't know why ECB dropped him for texting Saffies? Its not like he was texting friendly neighborhood bookmaker John.

Ah, Peter, the old "plastic Brits" debate eh ?
Personally, I can't argue with this take on the affair.
Read also the link on the right of the piece - "if its not our best against your best, whats the point" ?

The "ta" from your link caption got added to the end of the link, Growler. ...
As for the articles: well, they make sense (however bristling, in Mail fashion), but it makes a separation between legitimate and non-legitimate seem obvious, where it is not always the case in reality. (For example, the Anguilla athlete doesn't exactly seem a freeloader to me, but neither is she "British").

To address your point though - Samuel does argue that the honourable thing to do would be for GB to assist places like Anguilla achieve IOC recognition in their own right - or assist athletes in being able to compete under the olympic (or equivalent) flag, dependant on the competition. She was able to compete under her own flag at the world championships.
Whilst agreeing she's no freeloader, and not a "plastic" in that semse, by her own admission, the athlete would celebrate any success as an Anguillan first and Brit second ......

Anyway, in reference to the word KP possibly used... does the "doosra" have a different name in SA? Apart from "the one they chuck", that is...

Nah. Just the universally accepted meaning. Ask Johan Botha,

Google Translate is useless. It simply repeated the "c" word when I tried the English to Afrikaans translation.
"Fanny" on the other hand, returns "zitvlak", and "snatch" returns "ruk".

... because he's been a disloyal selfish self-promoting teamwork-undermining prat since he first played ... as I think you yourself would admit. England thought they could offset those undesirable personality traits with his batting brilliance, and that this would be a winning trade-off ... and it's worked for them on a few occasions, most notably in 2005, but that was a long time ago, and his overwhelming influence on the team since then has been negative.
It's no skin off my nose though if they ever do select him again - he's bad for the team, and that's good for England's opponents. Just commenting that I think the selectors will draw their line in the sand now, after this latest debacle, and wish him farewell.

As you know I hold no brief for him and I detest that twat Piers Morgan even more, but this has all the hallmarks of a kangaroo court.

Missed him greatly this innings. Walking wickets were walking, timid shitbags were timidly shitting.
Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
Unless you are thinking of making Kev open, you are mainly gunning for one particular Malta-related batsman again, I suppose.
But in any case, the issue of KP is not just about an aggregate of one batsman's runs. Even when he fires.

Missed him?
The player who replaced him did well.

Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
I'm on about 1, 2, 4 or 5. Take your pick. Two are technically inept and two just weren't up to hanging on in there. Admittedly lil' Jim T actually replaced Bairstow, but the point still stands - stick him in there in place of any of them and the team would be stronger.
Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
I've heard some hornswaggler say what the apparent 'tactical' advice was that KP gave them. It may be a bit technical for some of you to understand, but it went along the lines of 'nick him off'.
SA have a lot to thank him for. We surely would've won were it not for that morcel of wisdom????????????????

I heard that the advice was come around the wicket, but it was far too technical for me to understand.

That's what happens when you don't hear the full story... speculation from all over. The journalist I heard said what I just said. Either way, it's something a two year old could've come up with.
