Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
Is this it for his England career then?
Guess it is it for the series and number 1 ranking anyway, far too soon to recall Bairstow against this pace attack. Hopefully they go 5 bowlers and bat Prior at 6 (or even further up as the top order aggressive player).

Bairstow owes a few quid to Midge for bowling dobbers in England 'A' s 2nd innings to enable him to be recalled.

What a soap opera.
Or he's playing the ECB at their own game. They keep leaking details of their private correspondence with him to the media in an attempt to use public opinion as a weapon against him, so he's upped the ante and very publicly declared he's England through and through (ahem), willing and able to play any time, any place, daring the ECB to drop him now - how can they justify NOT picking their best player when he has spelled out his commitment to the cause?
Ball's back in the ECB's court.
There was never much danger of KP being left out. Surely it was all about keeping his name up in lights while the Olympics were on.
Remember that time you didn't know jack shit about anything?
KP's got to live with the consequences of his actions. He played a massive bluff and was called on it. To be honest, I thought he'd matured and realised it wasn't all about him in the past few years. I was wrong. But what can you expect when a guy's bezzies with Piers Morgan.
Oh well. No player's bigger than the team, however good. Ask Fergie.

Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
KP joins Kenny Barrington in 1965 and Geoff Boycott in 1967 in being dropped for disciplinary reasons after scoring a Test century (a double century in Boycott's case). In Barrington & Boycott's cases the offence was scoring too slowly - not a charge usually levelled at KP. Both were recalled after missing 1 Test.
Jack Robertson was dropped after scoring 121 against New Zealand at Lord's in 1949. However he was standing in for the injured Cyril Washbrook who returned for the following Test on his home ground of Old Trafford. Robertson responded by scoring 331* for Middlesex at Worcester on the opening day of that Test. Wonder if KP has the quality to do the same or will he not offer to play for Surrey and do a sook instead?

It's the first time in a while a player has been left out by England for reasons of discipline or team disharmony. In the 80s and early 90s we had Boycott, Botham and Gower on occasions dropped for reasons other than form, I suppose we had Freddie in that World Cup but in Test terms it hasn't happened for a long time.

He could be acidly critical and, according to some of his Yorkshire colleagues, occasionally selfish, characteristics which might be excused of high-class performers in some fields of entertainment, but not cricket. It was a shattering conclusion to a wonderful career.

ECB in cutting off nose to spite face shocker.
Johnny Bairstow? Deary me. He looked an absolute cabbage against the might of the West Indies.
Here's a prediction: Morne Morkel won't pitch a single delivery in Johnny B's half of the pitch.

Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
I'm not sure he will play anyway. We need to gamble and play 5 bowlers, a draw's as much good to us as losing by an innings and 250.
As an experiment for this one-off match I'd stick Prior up to 4 in the KP role with Belf and Little Jimmy staying where they are, and hope Bresnan, Broad and Swann can contribute at 7, 8 and 9.

On the texts, though. Surely they can't punish KP for what was presumably a private exchange?
It may have been bloody silly of him, especially when the targets are on your team and the message sent to the oppo during a game. But is it something that warrants punishment?

Most likely Lardy. Still, seems like an awfully light straw, even by the definition of straws. I think they had made up their minds they were going to do him at that stage.

I think this is going to run and run. Could bring about a less than fitting end to the Strauss/Flower era and have us heading into the Ashes defence in total disarray.

The South Africans have played a part. Graeme Smith, AB and co will act like Yarpie, god-loving angels and say they had nothing to do with it, but obviously there's been a leak, otherwise how does anyone in the ECB and the public even know about the texts?

Welly well well. I can honestly say I didn't expect KP to get the arse. Dunno whether to say "well played" or not to the England NSP.

"Following a constructive meeting it was agreed that a number of actions needed to be completed to re-engage Kevin within the England dressing room."
Is that PC speak for the rest of the team hates him?

Maybe, maybe not. In the Telegraph today it says the ECB asked the South Africans for the alleged texts in question and they flat refused as they were private correspondence and none of the ECB's business.
I can't stress how pathetic it is that the ECB are going around like a bunch of low rent Big Brother chavs, desperate to find out who's been bitching about them behind their backs.
My goodness. The Saffs must be pissing themselves.

So KP acts like a qunt and it's all South Africa's fault. Ever hear of phone hacking? Apparently pommy papers are pretty good at it.

Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
Jeez, how old is KP ?
If he actually did send text messages regarding his England colleagues, he really shouldn't be surprised that they eventually become public one way or other.
If the leak came from a SA player, all that suggests is that the individuals friends, family and team mates should be wary of telling him anything in confidence in the future.
As a cricketer, KP is a genious - as a bloke he's a tool who really needs to get his shit together pretty quickly. When Flintoff finally departed, it soon became obvious that he wasn't as well regarded in the dressing room as many of us thought.
Looks rather like KP is regarded in the same light, and if we have in fact seen the last of him, he's likely to find that he won't be missed anythin like the extent that he probably imagines.

Re: England squad delayed after KP texts
Apparently his relationship with some team mates was getting to the stage where they would have literally refused to come out to the balcony to applaud him making a 50 or 100 had he done so at Lord's.
Team spirit is overrated sometimes, but to me that sounds like a situation that's gone too far and can affect the performance of a team. England are right to drop him now. Hopefully everything gets sorted in time for the tour of India in the Winter.
It should also be noted that he thanked the Delhi Daredevils for their support in his Youtube video, but didn't apologise once to either his team mates, or the ECB.
