(Belatedly)
Fogg = Hughes.
Phileas Fogg - travels round the world without obvious purpose.
Phileas Hughes
Fogg Hughes - his response to the selectors on being omitted again, or to everyone who says "sort your technique out"

Doesn't make sense. Phileas Fogg had a clear reason for traveling around the world.PeterCS wrote:(Belatedly)

Re: Ashes 2013 Nicknames
68 wasn't bad as (what should have been) a foundation.
Feeble exit stroke, true.
But it was the subsequent deceleration which was the core problem of the day.

I was a bit worried he'd be out two runs before.
"Root: 66."
Like 13, 111 or Aussie 87, ominous ring.

I was referring to his scoring rate, too; not his eventual tally. A soporific day.PeterCS wrote:68 wasn't bad as (what should have been) a foundation.

Re: Ashes 2013 Nicknames
Aye, but as an opener (perforce), seeing off the new ball, seeing off the end of one day and start of another, he has some excuse.
Remember his S/R is considerably worsened by the defensive action of the previous evening. You could claim he should have come out firing then too, but I believe a (small?) minority would have done that in those circumstances.
#3, 4, 5, 6 have less mitigation. Woakes could claim "debut" I suppose. And at least struck two early fours. Before sinking into the Ditch of Dull that soggied the rest.

Re: Ashes 2013 Nicknames
I've avidly watched the Tests even while we've been getting smashed earlier in the series, not missing a ball ... but I just can't bring myself to watch such turgid bollocks.

Re: Ashes 2013 Nicknames
My own views on the go-slow (FWTW) are on the match thread.
Just that I wouldn't single out Root, as a sort of "escaped goat".
In fact, as I said, I'd tend to "invert selection", as computers sometimes put it.
