Ashes 2013 - a question Empty Ashes 2013 - a question

Post by lardbucket Mon 09 Jan 2012, 20:19

Apart from announcing that there will definitely be a Test in Durham next year, has the Board made any firm announcements about the order and timing of the 2013 Ashes Tests? I'm hoping for a trip over around that time, and I don't really want to do it with any of the organised tours eg The Fanatics.

Nothing yet, but Lords will be 1st or 2nd test for sure and the Oval the last.

So it isn't in the same year/season as the WC.

The ICC had enough of a meagre test series overshadowing their premier ODI competition

Aus goes to England for a meaningless 5 match jamodi series this Summer as well. I mean FFS, they could have easily put another test match against the Saffies in there instead. Makes. No. Sense. Whatsoever.

"Aus goes to England for a meaningless 5 match jamodi series this Summer as well. "

During Wimbledon - must have been the last time still vacant.

No trophy involved? Could we make a virtual one - the WGAF Cup? Or even the Sweet FA Cup?

I think Lord's is usually a sell-out? Best bet is the weekdays, obvs.

The other two are apparently Old T and Trent Bridge. Lord's or Cardiff could be first, Oval should be last, but really, it could be any way round. Sorry to be of no help.

I hope to go. I will be around England (more particularly Europe and Canada) at the right time; and with adequate planning I should be able to jag enough time in England to attend or at least sample two Tests. I'm not fixated on Lords or indeed anywhere in particular ... Headingley or Durham would be excellent and even Nottingham, Cardiff would be good. However, I can't find the dates for any of the grounds yet. Even The Fanatics site is vague at this stage, and I don't really want to travel with a mob of beer-guzzling flag-wavers in any case.

Yes it's frustrating there are no clear dates yets as you have to book early because of the small ground capacity at most venues. Because of the latter it's quite expensive too by Aussie standards.

Looked at some ticket prices on the site linked to above. £180 for day 1 and again for day 2. Bugger that for a joke.

Red you really do talk some absolute c*ck at times.

At every Test V Australia at Lords over the past 15 years, I have always witnessed/met a multitude of Aussies all around the ground, loving every second, and never once have I heard a single Aussie complain about the cost of his/her ticket.
Sure it's expensive across the board, I don't deny that, but you don't come to Test cricket to gorge on bums and tits as you do for T20 circuses... you come to get absorbed .... and furthermore, size of ground aside, Lord's has always been full with hundreds more queuing outside for every Test involving Aus, Saffers and the Bannies ... and occassionally the Paksters.

Lardy - don't be put off by "price" ... £75 will buy you 2 hours at a West End show ... it also buys you 6 hours test cricket in London.
