Well, that is one of the meanings.

Exactly. What is recognition. Is acknowledgement of non-rcognition, recognition itself. One could ponder whilst one pokes the teddy bear but one wonders in the end, by way of termination, as it were, why let semantics get in the way of a good tit shot.

Pity it had to come from someone with nothing to lose.

One interesting thing about the selection though is that it does go against the Argus recommendations which suggested that players should be picked on form.
It does sound mixed messages to the SS players.
As for alternatives, the reality is that Marsh is 34th on the list of first class averages for the season. I agree that selection should be also based around a player's ability to translate his form to the next level, not just on hard statistics but Marsh really has had nothing to recommend him apart from a few solid ODI innings and his performances at the highest level have been mixed with a very ordinary first class output since he was last dropped from the test arena.

The usual suspects from memory. I'm not subscribed either (buy the old fashioned content, purely for the sports and business you understand. Not reading any of the fascist crap at the front) but it came to me via a link from the media monitoring site I use.
Even if he didn't and he was just dumping a bucket of shit on the NSP, it was a well deserved bucket of shit.

I find now in my workplace that the only people willing to speak up are those with nothing to lose, i.e. close to retirement. The rest of us are loath to, especially those very young ones desperately seeking promotion or who want their contract renewed.

Just re-read it. The reporter names the usual suspects and uses the tweet to drop a load of his own on the ever growing pile of excrement out there in cyberspace.

They did pick Johnson because he was "in a good space" and performance in ODIs. A bit different for a batsman admittely but they do have recent form doing it.

Well at least you can have some fun loading the creppies up with booze or pills and letting them have at the tyrants on behalf 'of those they would throttle". Either that or shoot the bastards yourself and claim Marsh's selection saw you lose all reason momentarily.

Yeah. It's the "recent form" bit that worries me. How long before it becomes habit.

Liked by Boof ( who coached him in the IPL)
Liked by the team ( who remember his batting in his first few games)
he has scored very few tons for a veteran FC player...someone on radio (hoggy the 1st, I think) said hughes had scored three times as many centuries as bog...this really is the most strange selection since the Watkins incident

Re: Aus squad for SAf
I reckon it's a genius move by the selectors.
Doolan will play and unless he gets a pair or pairs will play all 3 tests. Therefore Marsh is just there to make up the numbers. Meanwhile, the real next in liners and getting good solid Shield workouts back in Oz against a few bowlers desperate to get to the front of the queue when Rhino finishes sometime in the next 12 months and hopefully a desperate spinner looking for a possible Test spot for the UAE tests.

Looks like Smith's tweet has been deleted. There is now this:
Daniel Smith [ltr]@13DSmith[/ltr] 31m
Apologies about the tweet regarding selections. I was disappointed for a good mate if mine for being left out of the SA tour. No excuse.

surely the 'plan' is to bat Bog at 3 and clotto or fork at 6 ...I just hope Bog does not get into the mini-bar, get smashed and wipe out someone (unless it is Clotto)

Well looking long term yeah. But that would be mistaking ineptitude for strategy.

SHAUN Marsh's shock selection in the touring party to South Africa has drawn flak from cricket watchers - and even a current player.
Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper Daniel Smith has raised his head above the parapet to lambaste national selector John Inverarity on Twitter.
"I'm sorry but Inverarity has to go," Smith tweeted to his 15,000 followers after the Australian squad was announced on Monday. "Picking players in a 'good space' over players with runs on the board is a joke."
Smith was referring to Inverarity repeatedly saying on Monday that Marsh was in a "good space". This was despite Marsh averaging just 25 in first-class ranks since his last Test, against India in Adelaide two years ago.
The West Australian lurched through that Test series to average 2.83, while his teammates filled their boots - Michael Clarke averaged 125, Ricky Ponting 109 and Mike Hussey 58 - against an underwhelming Indian attack.
Marsh's recall - foreshadowed by The Australian on Monday - makes a mockery of the Argus review clause that says it is "critical that superior performance is rewarded", and "players must earn their positions in the time-honoured way of making runs".
With just 248 runs at 31 before the Sheffield Shield entered its hiatus for the Big Bash league, Marsh ranks 34th in the competition aggregate.
Marcus North has 593 runs at 99 and Phil Hughes 549 at 61.
Smith was not alone in being shocked at Marsh's selection - online forums were full of posts from outraged fans and even Marsh was startled by his recall.
"I was pretty surprised when John called me the other night but it is a fantastic opportunity for me now," he said.

Think though, as has been noted by several critics, Johnson probably would not have played in Brisbane had Pattinson, Cummins and Starc been fit.
