Taunton FFS.... flattest batting track in the country.... sunny day ... temp 23 C.
Somerset score 523 for 9dec
Middlesex in reply .... 64 for 7.... which, when all is said and done, borders on a recovery, having been 11 for 4 after 5 overs !!
You couldn't make this shit up even if you tried.
Middlesex now seriously facing the drop.
Fraser ... f**k off to the ECB and stay there you f**king moron.
Ramprakash ... ditto ... p*ss off ... England's batting coach FFS !!
Don't think it was the flattest track in the country for this match:
I'd blame the bowlers just as much as the batsmen for this.

Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
If you're going to get rid of one County team, you need to get rid of two. Leics and Gloucs for the chop, I reckon. The Gidman brothers are both leaving Gloucs at the end of this season, and they have pretty much single handedly kept them reasonably competitive. God knows how awful Gloucs will be now they're gone. Direbyshire have at least shown signs in the last few years that they are UNHAPPY about being shit and have looked to rectify their structure. Leics and Gloucs are apparently content to be shit.
I wonder what Aggers thinks about the situation at Leics? He has the ability and profile to shine the spotlight on what's going on at his old County, which could shake them into action.

Aggers is a presumptuous prick who knows f*ck all.

I mean what's there now, rather than over the last decade or so... if they have a place as a "development" team they need to at least be competitive in Div 2.Brass Monkey wrote:beamer wrote:

Maybe it's time to blur the distinction a bit between FC and minor counties, rather like is planned with the Test nations and associates. Obviously even Leicestershire would more than likely thrash the best minor county in a four-day match right now, as their rivals would have had no real exposure to that level of competition, but perhaps the solution is an 8 or 10 team top division then a regionalised system below without FC status?

I see young Jake Libby who scored a ton on debut for Notts has signed to play for Latrobe in the Tassie NW league this SH summer.

What's at Leicester now is a team stripped of 5 players that would make them more competitive. What have Notts brought to the table? Samit Patel? Alex Hales? What have Glamorgan brought? Northants? Hants? Kent?
Point being, the current teams cannot be punished for their failings for not bringing England players to the table - their underperformance could be borne out of the fact they struggle to subsidise the increasing player wages, or it could be that they have money and a shit youth set-up.
Northants apparently* has one of the best academies in the country - what has that brought? A possible David Willey and a very maybe-in-the-future James Kettleborough and Ben Duckett.
Northants finished second from bottom the season before they got promoted, didn't win a List 'A' match and won about two T20s. They proceeded to get promotion, missed out on the List 'A' semis on NRR and won the T20. Basically the same personnel as before.
Derbyshire - very similar.
Jack Brooks was integral to Yorkshire's Championship win with 67 wickets - do you think those inward looking Northern bastards would've plucked him from obscurity? Very doubtful indeed.
All this talk of smelly counties you just don't like smacks of a gigantic case of oligarchic elitism. I'm not into that, and wouldn't be if my county was one of the lovely glory boys that everyone loves and thinks is wicked. Good players are bred where they're bred, some at counties where they get a chance, others go nowhere because they can't get in a side.
It is as it always is.
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
One day captain Josh Cobb is the latest to abandon Leicestershire's stricken vessel to join Northants' rubber dingy of dreams.

One of the most underwhelming signings going around. His entire list of FC averages read as such:
11.5
59.85
19.61
19.12
11.94
34.18
14.33
34.91
Wow. Just wow.
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
He's a decent biffer in t20. Maybe Northants are going all out for the big one...
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Dello wrote:He's a decent biffer in t20. Maybe Northants are going all out for the big one...
You'd think that, wouldn't you? OK, these are only averages:
7.75
22.23
12
20.77
19.55
29
2.75
27.46
but even if he's going at a decent S/R, he's not going to make a telling innings.
He's fed off a good finals day in 2011(when lowly Leics won it - wouldn't have happened it some had their way).
Done nothing, overall.

Possibility of history being made at Chester-le-Street. How much longer can Rushworth keep bowling?

Just when I thought N'hants couldn't get any worse, they get rolled for 83 and 90. Absolutely no heart whatsoever. They probably wanted to finish a day early. Disgraceful beyond words.

Sympathies Danny, been there done that etc, etc. It didn't help that you went into the start of the season with a weaker squad than the one that got you promoted last season.

Cheers Bas, yeah - I just wished we'd shown a bit of ticker though. There has been many a match report of us just meekly crumbling. It was like 5 months of Ashes 13/14 cricket. Let's hope your boys can represent a bit better next year.

I've got everything crossed! It may be that we've got a bit more cash to spend on players and we won't be forking out for Moeen's salary next year as well. Apparently, we've been talking to Wayne Madsen as well as signing Alex Gidman - so the intent to strengthen the squad is there, I just that the club don't lose sight of the fact that it was the core of the squad's younger players who played above and beyond many supporters' expectations.

Yeah, it's a shame you'll be missing Moeen but a stroke of luck that the ECB will pay his wages - let's hope you don't get a shedload of early season injuries. It's good to see whether your youth can sink or swim. Ours sank.
Re: English Domestic Season (2014)
Just when there seemed a glimmer of hope ... the Sexies spoil it with a Morgan duck ... now 10 runs needed to avoid an innings defeat with 6 wickets in hand.

Buck pulls off the draw at Taunton.
A captain's innings in the truest sense.
All dependent on next week's game V Lankies up at OT...
Sexies need 6 bonus points from the game to ensure staying up.
Lankies need the full 24 point win (but Middsx to get under 5 bonus pts) for the Lankies to ensure staying up!

Commiserations BM....look at this season as a temporary setback ...my Oz rules footy team lost 26 in a row across two seasons in the 90s and in one season in the 60s won only two games and those against the team that went through the season winless....now however we are something of a regular powerhouse...the wheel keeps turning and the hamster of probability keeps running
