Bears beat Slurrey in a one-sided Royal London Final - utterly yawnful. At least next season, it will be played on 1st July and not on a tired knacker of a pitch like the one that was served up today.

This research was produced by those in support of the city-based (we're not allowed to call it franchise) T20 competition that may or may not launch in 2018. The joke of it is, is that even if it goes ahead (it's not cast in stone) and even if it's successful ( long odds IMO), a WWE wrestler will still be more recognisable than Chef because he doesn't play T20!

It takes a class team to lose 5 wickets for 0 runs.

Was Trev at Taunton today??

Trev clearly got there late. His arrival coincided with the dismissal of his heartthrob Hildreth.

To give Hildreth his due, he pretty much hit a ton off one foot. Without him and Buck, Soms' outside chance (coming up on the rails) would already be extinguished.

Leicestershire might be in the best position to win after day 1 of its game, despite being dismissed first for 96 in just 21 overs. Strange game.

Was this a morning dew effect or something?

Timm van der Gugten struggled to get a game with Tasmania's second eleven but it seems he's been taking wickets easily on County decks.

The pitches at this time of season have all probably been used, so there might be some juicy picking for the bowlers.

I doubt if morning dew is a factor not with modern covers and a wet ball won't swing!

I don't think any neutral observer would begrudge Somerset their first championship.

If Trev has any sense, he'll keep well away from this thread until after play has finished at Lords!

At the end of everything, Middlesex win the county championship. Looked least likely of the three at the start of the day. Bit of a shame for Somerset.

Trev must have hung around.

The team Merls used to support wins the title.

The most fragile part of most teams, incl England of late.

And most openers can serve at 3 if need be. Some further down, in extremis.

I just hope some bright spark at the ECB doesn't get it into his head to suggest a play-off between the top two sides to finish the season.
