Seriously though, that was the first thing he spoke of after the rookie orientation test drive he did. How different steering was without power steering and comparative lack of electronics, and the difference in the way they accelerate in the Indy500 specs and formula 1.

And he gets into the fast nine qualification. Takuma Sato (remember him?) also there with a second fastest time today.

Unfortunately, Sebastian Bourdais had this. He was comfortably fastest after the first two laps.

Seemed to improve his times too unlike others. Possibly just tuned his car a bit conservatively.

Monaco tomorrow night. Hopefully better than the usual procession ...

I'm expecting this year will be worse than the usual because of the wider cars. Made for decent racing elsewhere, but without fast corners and tight roads, I'm pessimistic about this weekend. Then again, I always am about Monaco.

TBF GP drivers are superior to Indy Car racers.

With the likes of stroll, Palmer, Maldonado and some others having extended runs in f1, I don't think he has a great case there either.

Luckily, both drivers (Dixon, who flipped, and Howard) are safe and have been cleared medically. Horrible week for Scott Dixon, who was robbed at gunpoint earlier.

And Takuma Sato... oh wait a minute.

Sato was crash happy, but far from the worst. Even managed to get a hopeless super Aguri in the points a couple of times. Has a similar reputation in Indy. Once lost the Indy 500 on the last lap due to a crash. That, and the fact that this is a spec series brings drivers closer together, anyway.

Stroll is the insipid version of Tora Takagi. Crash happy, but dull and slow racer. He's a second or two off Massa, who isn't the best by any means, himself.

Of the current formula 1 drivers, I'd guess Hulkenberg has the most transferrable skills on the grid. Superb in A1, already won Le Mans, definitely see him as a race winner in F1 with good machinery (which we can expect sooner or later from Renault).

It was hella funny listenting to Stroll last night, when the pace car was out, saying "my tyres and brakes are getting cold, I think I'm going to crash when we restart" which he subsequently did.
