Re: Ashes 2017-2018 countdown
Hard to imagine he can ever fulfil his potential now given that he has remodelled his action and it hasn't stop the recurrence of the back injuries.

Sad if this ends his career. The bloke also can bat well.

He may well return later in the season simply as a batsman.
Meanwhile, England is considering adopting American technology which will see a tent-like structure linked to wires as a roof over stadia to counteract issues with rain delays.

So let's play it indoors, for 4 days at night, with a pink ball and still call it test cricket.

^Is that really such an issue? Apart from the four day part, the rest are non issues IMO.

Re: Ashes 2017-2018 countdown
Maybe I am being reactionary but am totally against the day/night matches because of the huge swing in conditions.

A test under those conditions every now and then is ok if only to test the skipper. Maybe having to think outside the box occasionally will help develop the game generally. Of course that's predicated on the bastards being capable of thought in the first place.

Fair enuff. Ksnr may have been a selfish redinker and a by the numbers colour in book skipper but his deficiiencies were papered over by having a great side.
Seasick Steve has no such advantages. Even his thicko deputy seems to have more acumen.

Finn added to the squad as cover for Stokes.
Can't see him batting at number 6, somehow... (still, odds on him averaging more than 2, 3 and 5 with the bat might be worth taking...)

Even though he has not cemented his place, I think Sneaky Pete should replace gcspoc as vc. The guy is sharp though a little dubious on the sportsmanship front. The other possibility is the Wrench who also seems cool and calculating. Time Oz moved away from selecting ASWDAC (any spiv will do as captain). The spivs have a failed cricketing culture.

I think if they show a character fault early, make an idiot of themselves on the wallop or desert a tour to tender to their own/gf's ego etc, they should have their card marked.

Can mental Mickey be any more of a nob? After railing against a search for an allrounder and needing to name your six best batsmen, he has Maxwell in his side.

Guess the spirit of cricket will be invisible if Warner has his way.

Has the “spirit of cricket” really existed since the 1930s?Red wrote:http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/the-ashes/ashes-2017-david-warner-wants-umpires-to-let-banter-flow-like-state-of-origin-20171017-gz2or8.html

The current points system for minor misdemeanours is ridiculous, if it’s not racist or similar then it’s just a part of professional sport. I’ve always thought occasional baseball-style bench-clearing brawls would add to T20 at least!

And with late November rapidly approaching, it is much hoped that we see some/plenty of posts from our former prolific English buddies in the coming months.

Spiv Hughes could easily open the batting instead of gcspoc.
