Re: Ashes 2017-2018 countdown
Meanwhile ... countdown is over, Ashes tussles have begun.
Starting with the Women, in a ODI in Brisbane.
England innings almost over, and Aussies well on top - 7 down for 210 off 47 is no sort of score, some serious collapsing is going to have to happen for the visitors to get back in this one - but this is the bit that has me scratching my head:
Some joker at cricinfo has specified "Allan Border Field" further, with the obviously bogus address: "1 Bogan Street Breakfast Creek".
WHAT IS GOING ON?

Re: Ashes 2017-2018 countdown
I vaguely remember I was on holiday in Qld around Easter 1989 and I wandered into a pub to watch the one-day final (Qld v Vic in Melb - we got thrashed, they batted first & made 250, we had supposedly the best one-day batting line up in Oz including Deano, Sod and Siddons but got blasted out for well under 100).
On the next table were the newly-crowned Brisbane first grade premiers, can't remember the team but among the State players there was a dark-haired midget fast bowler called Paul, last name not Trimble but something very like it, and a batsman called Jeff something who had played his first game for Qld earlier that summer. Around the time of the innings break in the ODI final, these blokes decided to move on to the next pub, because they had been on the piss for about 18 hours and me for only about one and a half they engaged my services as a chauffeur. We changed pubs (fairly sure the Brek was either the old one or the new one) and for the next couple of hours I was the duty Mexican, watching his team get bundled out by all these blokes' mates.
Interesting when they were talking internal politics that these guys wouldn't have a bar of 'John Bloody (or worse) Bell' the QCA supremo de jour.....and Allan Border didn't seem to be rated all that much higher.

Other one was probably the Normanby. I saw AB chew out his own brother at that shield final.

The Normanby was my local for a tome. When I moved to New Farm, mu local boozer was the The Brunswick (aka the Brunny). Great fun old bloodhouse with a round pool table in the public bar. Friday nights were a mix of working class locals, yuppies and cranky old buggers like me.Bradman wrote:Other one was probably the Normanby. I saw AB chew out his own brother at that shield final.

Think that might have been the central Brunswick horrie, opposite the archbishop mansion. Though not sure if there was a name change.

Easter 89? Doesn't that mean it was Souths that were 88/89 Premiers?

24-27 March 1989. So I'm guessing it was Souths on the piss that day. Also Paul Twible was a left arm medium pacer from Souths.
Apologies Mr bucket. One does the research then gets corrected. Poor form on my part.

Re: Ashes 2017-2018 countdown
The table in my link had Wests as 88-89 Premiers and Souths for 89-90. Easter 89 should have been in the 88-89 season, I figured. All very confusing.

In the link, the year is listed first and the Premiers to it's right.
