Re: World Cup 2019
Not yet. We're only half way through the Robin! And standings half way can mathematically be 100% reversed by completion. (Admittedly, apparent form and what they call "momentum" militates against that.)
Important little game just starting. Pakistan, SL, Af-HHhanistahn & SAf have it all to do (as in: winning every game left and probably also hoping for favours) to get to the semis.
WIndies & Bangladesh are in a middle position. The winner of their fifth game (of nine) today is still within sight of the current top four, and if any of them stumbles, can certainly still make it. The loser drops into the desperately-hopeful four just mentioned, and is therefore unlikely to challenge, unless a few lucky freaks (or say, England batting collapses) occur.
WIndies have a very decent NRR as well - BD far less so.

After a tight start the Windies are starting to get going.
Might be a 300 target for the Bangers.

Can't see the Bangers getting 322 v Ganja quicks.

The main contenders will be pleased with this, WI were one of the dangerous wildcards (along with Pakistan) who could click at the right time and win the whole thing, now they will be left needing snookers. Bangladesh aren’t going to win the World Cup, certainly not in English conditions, and probably won’t even make the last four but are capable of pulling off the occasional big performance.

Yeah, they could have gone on and got 400. As one of the commentators said, imagine how big a star Shakib would be if he was Indian.

No.
Bdesh still have Afghanistan and Pakistan to play. If they win those they'll have a red hot chance of qualifying.

Torrid time for AFG, at least in '15 they had Scotland to beat, but hopefully they are gaining from the experience.

They would still need to beat one of the front-runners as well (4-4-1 won’t get a team through), and hope someone ahead slips up a couple of times. Although the weather could mess things up for someone I suppose.OP Tipping wrote:Nath wrote:so semi finalists pretty much decided?

Yeah, they should have beaten Sri Lanka, but English conditions were always likely to be tough for them.OP Tipping wrote:Torrid time for AFG, at least in '15 they had Scotland to beat, but hopefully they are gaining from the experience.
They put up a decent fight with the bat for a while today, in the face of an impossible target. I’m still not confident in England’s ability to defend 320-330 against quality opposition.

Re: World Cup 2019
From the start i felt it would be India and Australia top 2 then England and New Zealand. It seems it's shaping up that way. Pakistan looked good when they beat England but have reverted to type and are up and down like a yoyo. WI looked great initially and should have beaten Australia but they like Pakistan have already failed to get the semi spot they wanted. Bangladesh deserve a lot of praise i feel. A very good showing. It's a great WC in my view, fairly predictable, but with the minnows showing promise.

Some display of power hitting by Morgan last night.
I know Aussies were disappointed that Rashid was left one over short. With 0-110 he surely would've beaten Mick Lewis FFS's worst bowling display record of 0-112 (v SAf in THAT match at Jo'burg way back when).

15 off the last over is handy but 241 off 49 is a pretty crabby effort by the Yarps.
Will the Snoozies struggle?? Hard to see it?
