Wessels is a piece of crap. He has no loyalty to anything.
I don't know the man, but the example still stands.
he is no example of anything.
Well I think I have found someone with a dislike of a cricketer akin to mine of Bell!!! Hurrah!!!

No, he qualified in September/October 2004. Good find - that article - Taips, blows whatever figures out of the water. For me, however, is that 4 years isn't 2 months - in regard to the Pattinson affair. As for his claim about turning his back, a safeguard, in case it all didn't work out. My argument is that regardless of his intentions, he's now English, wants to play for England, wants to score runs versus everyone including SA. It didn't just get sprung on him, doing what he was doing for a short while. It was a remodel of his game, a long period qualifying and the fact this is the place he wants to live.

But it doesn't mean that KP should be tarred with the same brush, does it?
Seems to me it's just Saffers (and not just here on the forum) who have the
"problem" with KP ... England supporters reflect a combination of frustration,
irritation and open 'anti-ego' abuse .... but they firmly support the guy in the team.

Charlie, you are not even close believe me. I wrote a long pice about Wessels for Danny about 3 months back, might look for it when I get the time.

Kepler Wessels is the same. He didn't want to play for Australia, he wanted to play international cricket. He played for Australia because that was the route open to him. Same for Allan Lamb, but substitute England for Australia.

So how could he play for England A if he wasn't qualified?

Please do. Would be very interesting to read, as even when I lived in CT I never heard anything about him being overly disliked?

Eoin Morgan has been selected in the Lions side to play SA - and he still plays for Ireland.

Always going to happen in the British Isles I expect - and I know Ireland aren't part of it politically etc...

Lamby was a bit different.
Both his parents were actually English and he has settled here after his playing days. Ditto Robin Smith...

Play with/against and know several Saffers here, and again, not picked up those anti-Wessels vibes TBH.
PS - still think it's totally wrong to lump KP in the same category as Wessels.

Re: Pietersen to be named as England captain
Lamby? WGAF? Where's Lamby now? Up the County Tavern or nearly running me over for the 4th time. He's up the Saints, or the Cobblers or drinking in the same boozers as the rest of us. That's where. Do I GAF where he was born or that he's Northampton til he dies?
I'd easily set the likes of Greig and Wessels, who chopped and changed, apart from the likes of Lamby, and possibly Pietersen(this won't be confirmed for many a year).

It's bald-faced cheek. The bloke's got Northants in his blood. F*ck where he's from(same with Smith and Hick as you mentioned), it's where he is, what he's done and everything else.

Yes, except Lamb played domestic cricket in SA both before and after his stint in England. He has stated before that he wished he could've played for SA, but obviously that was just not an option for him at the time.
Don't know about Smith though - he never came back to SA.

Stint in England? I saw the f*cker the other day. He's still here mate. In rainy, concrete Northampton.

Added to the fact that the last FC games he played were for Nhants, not WP

The whole Pietersen saga leaves a disturbing taste in my mouth, even more so than the wife's apple 'n cumin crumble. Deciding to leave SA because he couldn't be arsed to get selected the normal way was one thing, mouthing off about his supposed injustices every time someone with a mic walked past to make sure his cover story got some good air-time was another, going to the desperate extremes of getting tattooed and refering to every group of living organisms on the planet as 'lads' yet another, but then being made England captain on top of it all? It's bad enough that the England captain was chosen simply because he was the only person guaranteed a place in the team, but that the person in question only became British because it was easier than being South African (or any other nationality)??
I find it odd as an outsider, but I could imagine if I was English I'd be well pissed.
Does he mouth of about his injustices every 5 minutes? I can't say i've ever heard it apart from when it was originally reported.
Roger Twose left England to go and play for NZ - got himself a Kiwi wife etc
Even came back and beat us in a series in 99
Can't see I was as pissed as the Saffers seem to be. Would you be that pissed if he actually wasn't that good? Because I don't really recall a peep from SA during his qualifying stint
Well I can't speak for all the Saffies here, but I'm not pissed and Bliks doesn't seem to be.
I'm not pissed either. I quite like the challenge of him being made captain.

I know what club and country would be more dear to him, were you to come to Northampton and ask him.
