Re: US open tennis
FMD, Millman is about to beat Federer.
I think that Fed's run is just about done.

Really? Did you really just post this??
Are you trying to fark Millman's chances?
Millman has just broken back in the 4th. Back to 4-3 with Millman serving at 2 sets to 1 up.

Only the second Aussie to beat Federer at a slam.
First was Rafter in the 1999 French Open!

Re: US open tennis
You have to wonder if Federer’s Slam-winning days are over now. Still, we were probably saying that when he lost to Nadal in 2008...
It’s anyone’s guess who comes out on top between him, Nadal and Djokovic in career major title terms. My money’s on Rafa as he should get 3 or 4 more at Roland Garros as long as he can walk... but Djokovic has the best chance of another dominant year where he wins three out of four.

Rafa's turn to be under the pump. He should get out of it but 5 sets in this humidity could hurt him in the next rounds.

Yeah, 2009 was when old PearlJ started saying Fed would never win another.beamer wrote:You have to wonder if Federer’s Slam-winning days are over now. Still, we were probably saying that when he lost to Nadal in 2008...

However, I don't think he will win anymore. Age catches up eventually and I'm not sure he has what it takes physically to go through a whole tournament anymore. Has been a lovely twilight to his career though.
I hope if anyone catches him it's Djokovic and not Nadal. I may have mentioned it before but I despise the whingeing Spanish twat. Djokovic and Federer are both brilliant to watch in their own way but I can't stand Rafa's style of play and how he takes so long between shots whilst picking his arse. I also know a ball girl who he was a c*nt to.
If anyone catches Fed then I hope it's Djokovic but I think if Nadal wins the US Open then he will easily catch him as he wins one a year at RG and will do for a while as no one else is coming through.

Re: US open tennis
Nadal retires injured in the semi-final... Del Potro reaches his second Grand Slam final, nine years after what looked like being the first of many.
It’s become a case of the big three versus their own physical fragility, rather than anyone else. A sorry state for the sport to be in... the wait for a men’s Grand Slam singles champion born in the 90s will continue into the year when the oldest such players will turn 29. I think a champion born in the ‘00s may well come first! Wouldn’t surprise me if the old guard are still picking them up in 5 years’ time as long as they can last out the two weeks though.

So Serena played the gender card in a petulant display last night??
Well done to Naomi Osaka in making history as the 1st Japanese Grand Slam winner.

Her true colours came out again. She's the worst sport in tennis history, including McEnroe. How could she make her display about women's rights? Guess all the men have to do is point to equal prizemoney for unequal work!
Talking about how she has a daughter and making that relevant was ridiculous.

Her last petulant display was when Sam Stosur had her on the ropes in another US Open final. She abused a lineswoman something fierce.
I guess "gracious loss" is not in her vocabulary.

Agree, she stole Sam's limelight and made Naomi Osaka who made history, feel she needed to apologise.
The crowd antics were shocking too.
Somehow it's hard to feel sorry for Serena (admittedly great player), who has bullied lines-people ( wanted to shove a ball down one's throat), for years and is all smiles wearing a tutu, incongruously while having the arm muscles of a West Coast Eagle, when she wins.

So the idiot Serena supporters quoting the likes of Nastase, Connors and McEnroe as examples of double standards.
It was because of those that the violations were introduced. Clowns.

What a twat she is. Congrats to Osaka (who would have won comfortably anyway and probably took more guts to win after what Serena did and not get distracted by it).

Re: US open tennis
Yeah, I've just seen extended coverage of her melt down. What a bitch for taking the limelight away from Osaka, with the most embarrassing display of petulance from someone who expected to stroll to a win but was getting her arse kicked.
Then to pull out the gender card was just a joke. I'm surprised the race card didn't come out. Probably the only reason it didn't was that her opponent wasn't white. What a spoiled brat and a totally disgraceful performance.

I don't think any of those three (or any others, come to that), for all the rudeness and general quntishness - have ever either threatened an official with violence, or outright called an official a thief. That's implies an accusation of outright corruption.
She's a disgrace to the sport, and the sooner she retires, the better. Won't make women's tennis any more appealing for me though - can't be doing with the shrieking and grunting ... sounds like rutting dogs.

Her meltdown against Clijsters was my favourite. That might change... this was epic in its stupidity.

I reckon she REALLY wants to beat Courts record and then retire. Hence the stress.
