Wenger does things his way - don't think Arse fans can grumble too much - he's always prefered making his own players or stealing them young than buying ready made stars.
Bendtner is a strange one, I actually think he's got talent.

bendtner is talented, think he lacks confidence despite the bravado. song and diaby have potential too. but denilson, eboue, silvestre, almunia (as 1st choice) are not arsenal standard.
wenger has his way, and its admirable, but we cant afford to go season after season not winning anything. he shouldve built upon the perceived weaknesses last season especially after flamini, lehmann, gilberto and hleb left. every arsenal fan knew that the midfield was a weak area but wenger chose to do nothing about it - and our title challenge was over after 14 games. denilson has started all but one premier league game for us this season and his performances have been a joke (apart from the first few games), yet we persist with him.
its not acceptable that a club of arsenals size, who complete in the latter stages of the CL every season and have gate receipts of 60k choose not to strengthen glaringly obvious weaknesses in the squad for the sake of some experiment that is obviously not working. the club is bigger than wengers ego. the invincibles should have been further strengthened and the success built upon but we've just gone backwards. we might lose our best players if this carries on, as they arent getting any younger and need to think about their legacies.

Could do a lot worse, he did very well with Sunderland up until a few people started critcising him.
After which he quit like a pussy.

At least he won't hang on if he starts getting booed - bit of the Keegans about him in that respect.
Just a bit worried about his transfer dealings - paying a crapload for mediocre players. Not that he'll get that type of money at Ipswich.

I seem to recall the unbeaten team had its fair share of ready made stars.

Henry & Viera were flops in Italy and hardly big names when they were signed. Henry was a right winger who didn't score many goals & Viera was in AC Milans reserves.
As I said he tends not to go for the big names but either get them young from another club or he turns players into stars.

Yeah - Berbatov,Tevez,Ferdinand, Rooney,Carrick...
Not similar at all. He buys players who have done the business at other clubs.

Um, Rooney was pretty young when he came to United.
Wenger bought big in his early days, but with the cost of the Emirates he can't afford it.
Ferguson has brought plenty of young players through. If you look at yesterday's starting line up, most of them meet your earlier definition.

Um, Rooney was pretty young when he came to United.
He was still a young superstar who more than one club after his attention for big bucks - hardly what Wenger did with Viera/Henry (Imo)

Well lets find that Arsenal squad then.

There's no doubt Fergie has a great youth set up - Beckham,Scoles etc are a testament to that.
As far as im concerned Fergie/Wenger do things differently.

Reading have finally managed to stagger into the play offs. They've drawn 3 and lost 4 of the last 7 home games and been scoreless in 6 of them.
Despite this if Birmingham and Sheff Utd. stumble at the week-end they will still have a 2nd place finish within their own control.
Carn the Biscuitmen.

Southampton are relegated.
The Football League has determined that their holding company's income and expenditure is inextricably linked (nay, dependent on) Southampton football club and they are therefore not separate entities. Therefore, Southampton will be deducted ten points either:
- when they finish outside of the relegation zone this season, whereupon they will be punished with a ten-point deduction and therefore relegated anyway
OR
- when they are relegated, whereupon they have not been punished for their actions and will have to suffer the punishment NEXT season

But they came through about 15 years ago now... since then they've produced very few genuine home-grown first team players. The most successful of the next generation were Wes Brown and John O'Shea who have been long-serving squad players, but never automatic first choices - so they haven't developed a genuine superstar for well over a decade. Players they bought for eight-figure transfer fees at the age of 17 or 18 don't count!JKLever wrote:taipan wrote:

Danny Welbeck is supposed to be pretty much the highest paid teenager in English football.
I guess that means they have high hopes for him.
