I still don't know who Atul Sharma is.
I believe Atul Sharma is a meat-head with no talent; who will either end up getting caught for having a dodgy action, or will be channeled into the Andrew Flintoff/Shane Watson school of fitness.

Re: How many IPL matches did you watch live ?
caught the last 10 overs or so of most the late starting matches during the weekdays. its a good concept but a bit too long. shouldn't last more than 3 weeks tbh. 6 franchises would've been ideal. maybe just have a single round robin as opposed to home and away (31 matches, 32 if there's a 3rd place play off as modi has indicated....down from the current 59)- but cant see it happening once its back in india.
i think modi has (ambitiously) tried to model it on the english premier league which is no longer just a domestic tournament - it has a worldwide following. no other domestic cricket tournament has as many high profile OS players so comparisons to sheffield shield or county cricket are moot

it was 2 on most days, 1 on others. 59 matches in 38 days. overkill.

Yup. Now imagine 5 of those a year (which I saw mooted yesterday)
The WT20 in SA was a decent, fun tournament because it was over so quickly compared to the 50ovs WC. Lessons to be learnt there I think.
Re, Sheffield Shield/County Cricket. Followers of those teams have an emotional tie to those teams. They have no such ties to an IPL team, if Modi thinks everyone around the world is going to be following it I think he's wrong personally.

Maybe we should make Test matches longer?
6 days.
With a possible 3rd innings of limited overs to decide who wins.
2 unlimited over innings (like normal)
1 20 over final inning to decide who wins. This would abolish the word "draw" in test matches however.
T20 would become Test20.

I'd suggest washing your mouth out, but maye cutting your fingers off for typing such a suggestion would be more appropriate.DJ_Smerk wrote:Maybe we should make Test matches longer?

real madrid, man utd etc have a worldwide following. of course they have the history but you start somewhere. but the IPL will never reach anything approaching those levels because cricket has a limited worldwide appeal and there aren't enough world class players to make this format competitive (as demonstrated by the laughable "champions league" concept). so basically i agree but for different reasons!

Yeah, but Real Madrid & Barca don't have a 'big' following in England which has its own big teams.
Which is how it is in cricket. Essex till I die! Why would I support Deccan sodding Chargers?

Re: How many IPL matches did you watch live ?
i know more milan supporters than arsenal supporters. milan, barca, madrid, juve have a massive fan following. most the big 4 supporters aren't locals!
also, you can support more than one team. especially when they play in different leagues. some people support the team with their favourite players with no connection to the city/state. high profile OS players help.
like i said i dont think the IPL will reach that sort of level but it can and does happen.

I don't know anyone who supports any overseas side. Apart from LLL & Barca on here...
Highly doubt your phrase 'massive' is apt either tbh...
