Think that will apply to about 500 Labour candidates in this election.

Don't get smug Al, there's still a decent chance Brown will be leading a lib/lab pact.

I hope he does. Another 2 years of Gordon the Moron in No.10 and a landslide Tory victory in 2012 is assured. He is also bound to inflict the same mortal wound on the Lib Dems that he has already done to NuLabour.

Not bad after going out to buy a loaf of bread and a pint of milk. One pensioner at least gets a one-off bonus thanks to Gordon.

Latest ComRes poll:

CON 36%(+3), LAB 29%(nc), LDEM 26%(-3).

More bad news for Gordon in this examination of an ICM poll of Lib Dem targets by UK Polling Report:

The Guardian has a new poll of Liberal Democrat target seats here. I think this is the first such study of these seats, which have suddenly become key to the election result. ICM polled the first 42 seats on this list, seats where the Liberal Democrats need a swing of up to 6% to win.

The share of the vote in these seats back in 2005 was CON 36%, LAB 23%, LDEM 35%. In ICM’s poll today they found support at CON 35%(-1), LAB 18%(-5), LDEM 39%(+4). That equates to a swing of 4.5% from Labour to the Lib Dems, and a swing of 2.5% from the Conservatives to the Lib Dems. This isn’t actually very good for them if you compare it to the national polls – the last ICM GB poll was showing the equivalent of a 7.5% swing from Labour to the Lib Dems, and a 3.5% swing from the Conservatives to the Lib Dems – in other words, the Lib Dems are doing worse in their target seats than nationally. On these figures, the Lib Dems would gain 10 seats from the Conservatives, and 11 from Labour.

It gets more interesting though if you look separately at the Conservative-held LibDem targets, and the Labour-held LibDem targets. As Julian Glover rightly warns in his commentary, only 15 of these seats are Labour held so the sample size isn’t huge and some caution is necessary, but it appears to show that the Lib Dem advance in marginals is wholly concentrated in Labour held ones: taken separately, responses in Con-v-LD seats shows no discernable swing to the Liberal Democrats, but a swing of about 8 points in Lab-v-LD seats. That would result in the Lib Dems taking about 28 or so seats from Labour, but few if any from the Conservatives. If this finding is at all accurate, it will be key to the result

Confirms what I suspected, that the Lib Dem surge will hurt Labour far more than the Tories.

Just seen the whole re-run of the Bwown gaff on ITN - Jesus, what an absolute f**k up - the guy is nothing short of mental and in serious need of a cuddly toy to nuzzle up to!

Conjecture on here about Sky leaving lapel mikes on for Bwown and not Cameroon is total bo!!ocks - and just that, conjecture.

If Cameroon had cocked up in similar fashion, I'll wager a pound to a pinch of sh!t that it too would have been broadcast - THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT !!

Difference is Cameroon (nor Cleggie) don't rant and feel that the entire world is against them ... BUT - and here's the irony - there's still belief in the LibDem camp that Ceggie will do a pact with NuLabour post-election and keep Bwown in the cabinet!

Which understandably hasn't exactly gone down well with merls.

Whichever elder it was, you could have at least ahd the decency to go back and fix it up. But don't worry, I've cleaned up your mess, you douchebag.

well done zat...i do not like misuse of the edit function and to my knowledge it has not happened for some time

btw ..brown was only guilty of stating the bleedin' obvious...

cameron and brown almost make krudd and the mad monk almost interesting if one is into odious comparisons..

merls at least has always been upfront about being a Tory ... others here are happy to parrot conservative positions from party agitprop as if it were their own.

In some cases, the 'eventually' is redundant.
