Still time to turn it all around, however. This is the game of cricket.

Care to explain how it was predictable?

Smith is a powerful second-innings player. Generally scores heavily in second innings, is often vulnerable early first knock. It's a quirk.

Um, all his 300 partnerships and double tons have come in the first knock.

So following Boucher's injury in England this is the second tour in a row where SA has suffered a major shock injury.

Well that was a shit day of cricket.

Nice start to a Test Series/Summer; to have used Hussey and some shit-Victorian-shit-crab-stick-who's-only-claim-to-fame-seems-to-be-as-a-'top bloke'-pity-about-his-farking-cricket-abilities as bowlers prior to Tea on Day 1.

Almost hope it's a blood bath so we can stop farking about and really rebuild.

Watched the first session. Nice to see a bit of Test cricket, after all the T20 nonsense.

Australian bowling is pretty ordinary if you ask me. Never rated Hilf or Siddle and have seen nothing from them in recent times to revisit that opinion.

James Pattinson's got promise, though.

Even a man down, SA look in a very strong position.

I fell asleep before lunch. No reflection on the cricket, though.

Hilf needs it to swing and even then it's mostly one way, Siddle just bangs it in too much. It's Anderson and Broad all over again.

Lyon just isn't good enough. What the hell was so bad about Hauritz? Did he kill all his teammates dogs or shag their wives or something?

Aye

"SOUTH Africa batsman JP Duminy ruptured his left Achilles tendon in a freak incident on the first day of the test series.

Duminy could miss all cricket for six months.

The 28-year-old Duminy was kicking a rugby ball and running with teammates at the Gabba after the South Africans reached 255-2 at stumps when he slipped and ruptured the tendon."

----------------------------------------------------

No mention of Smiffy even approaching Clarke for a replacement. I don't believe Aus would do so if the situation was reversed. As lardy says, there is no precedent. All the cases Trev mentioned were before a ball was bowled. And there are certainly instances where players were injured away from play mid-Test and not being replaced. Perhaps one of the more famous cases was Thommo injuring his shoulder playing tennis on the rest day of the 5th Test at Adelaide in 1974/75. So the precedent is that an injured player WON'T be replaced if injured away from the game mid-Test.

Forecast doesn't look too flash tomorrow either. Two days of sweating - we rip through the SAffies from here to roll them for 350, then they crash through us twice for a 3 day innings win???

Queensland beautiful one day; crappy the next.

About time they permanently had daylight saving too to avoid all these early finishes.
