Re: Ashes Squad
England only need 9-0 to beat Armstong's teams efforts after the war.

Re: Ashes Squad
Talk of 10-0 is ridiculous, and nothing more than loud-mouthed, attention-seeking ex England players mimicking what Glenn Mcgrath used to say about Australia's Ashes chances.
England SHOULD win in England, but it will be much tougher in Australia. The Aussies are now the biggest home-track bullies in the World. Far more than India. Probably on a par with Sri Lanka in that regard.

Really, do SA, NZ and England know that?

Re: Ashes Squad
Yes, Steve Smith added to the Aussie squad to cover Broke-e-back's broke-e-back.
It's not an Ashes without Steve Smith. Some might say it's not even cricket.

Re: Ashes Squad

Maybe this is what they should've done.skully wrote:Pretty strong bowling line up that should account well for themselves. Batting looks weak. Fork could play 5 Tests at no. 7.

Re: Ashes Squad
They could have played Knife or Spoon instead of Hughes, when the main damage was done.

Re: Ashes Squad
How's the England squad shaping up for the return series?
My guess ... all the Durham XI, plus:
Ballance
Kerrigan
Carberry
Taylor
Jordan
(Bairstow acts as reserve keeper)

Re: Ashes Squad
That would make some sort of sense.
So perhaps no.
I'd be surprised if they took Carbs at this stage (though they should). He'll be 33, so a bit old to be new to the game. They might take Clive Lloyd's godson, or even gamble on yet another young Yorkie, the much-touted Lees. But that might be one tyro too far - one for the next Ashes at the earliest. (~ ~ Sam Robson?)
Jordan? Maybe ... Meaker attracts more publicity. And has better figures. When not injured.
tbh I'd like them to take Tremlett, if fit, even though he'll be 32 and it will be his last hurrah. This is a broken record, I know. 17 wkts @ 23 last time in Oz. And a scary looking bastard, as well as his bounce. But Dello, who's a fair judge, keeps telling us he's lost his pace - so maybe I should take off this broken record. And also true, a quick who is two metres whatever tall, taller than Broad, he is always going to be a casualty threat. If not quite a delicate reed like Bruce Reid.

Re: Ashes Squad
We certainly won't take three spare batsmen, though if there isn't another specialist keeper it opens a place up. There will be five or six seamers, surely including Finn and (if fit) Tremlett. Second spinner is up for grabs.lardbucket wrote:How's the England squad shaping up for the return series?

The five you list have three Test caps between them, they surely won't go that raw in terms of backup.
