Re: English Domestic Season 2022
Yeah, there have been a fair few three generation English cricket families, the Cowdreys, Comptons, D’Oliveiras… sure there must be more. Has there ever been a fourth generation FC cricketer?

Michael Snedden in NZ
"Michael Snedden became the first fourth-generation cricketer in New Zealand first-class history when he made his Plunket Shield debut on Tuesday.
Snedden was selected in an injury-hit Wellington Firebirds side that was facing Canterbury at the Basin Reserve in the four-day encounter.
That saw him follow in the footsteps of father Martin Snedden (Auckland 1977/78-1989/90), grandfather Warwick Snedden (Auckland 1946/47) and great-grandfather Nessie Snedden (Auckland 1909/10-1927/28) as a first-class cricketer."

First in NZ history, so that implies there have been some elsewhere in the world as well?
Think I remember Martin Snedden, he played Tests didn’t he?

I think he was the guy who got Dean Jones LBW on 99 in Perth in the late 80s. The ball was so slow, Deano fell asleep as it was coming down the pitch.
______
Edit: I'm lying. That was Morrison. Sneddon played that game though.

As per most Snoozer bowlers of that sort of era, with the exception of Hadlee. It served them quite well, though, they punched above their weight in the ‘80s without the sort of depth of talent they’ve had in more recent times.skully wrote:Aye, dibbly dobbler.

He averages 6 in FC, largely down to a debut knock of 25 a couple of years ago. Probably in double figures before this run started.skully wrote:beamer wrote:Kent’s Nathan Gilchrist (no relation - he’s a Zimyarpom) has equalled a world record with six consecutive ducks. Crikey!! He makes the infamous NZer Chris Martin look like a half decent batsman.
I remember Northants bowler Mark Robinson getting a ridiculous run of scoreless innings in the late 80s/early 90s, but several of them were 0 not outs which I guess technically breaks a run of “ducks”.

Stokes with a CC record 17 sixes in his 161 off 88 balls Not bad for first innings as official England captain.

Some very uneven games are being played.
A player for the strange names thread: Felix Organ; I notice he's made a century opening, but then again, so did Sibley and Burns.

A record previously held jointly by Andrew Symonds and Graham 'Napeshit' (*) Napier.

Re: English Domestic Season 2022
I don’t remember him going Napeshit in FC cricket, thought his occasional spectacular batting feats were largely limited to the white ball…
Just looked up that innings, and it was in 2011, a few years after his record-breaking T20 knock made the headlines. Was at Whitgift, a small Surrey out-ground, so probably quite easy to clear the ropes.

It hasn’t been typical English early-season fare… maybe down to unusually dry weather. Darren Stevens has 1 wicket @ 215… time to hang them up and go and be, I don’t know, a snooker player or NFL quarterback perhaps?lardbucket wrote:Some very uneven games are being played.

By the way, Brett D’Oliveira is 30 now and captaining Worcs this season. A handy leg-spinning all-rounder who never quite made it to international standard with bat or ball but, like his late father, a solid county pro. I’ve seen him open the batting in T20s before.

He sent a well wishing text message to the 18-year-old spinner who he hit for 34 in an over. Guess he’s been on the receiving end himself in the past…skully wrote:beamer wrote:Stokes with a CC record 17 sixes in his 161 off 88 balls Not bad for first innings as official England captain.

Alastair Cook made a century in each innings for the Chavs this week, surprisingly the first time in his 19-year FC career.

Yeah, he could have at least put his name in cricketing infamy alongside bowlers long since forgotten otherwise, like Malcolm Nash, Tilak Raj, Daan van Bunge and Stuart BroadJGK wrote:beamer wrote:He sent a well wishing text message to the 18-year-old spinner who he hit for 34 in an over. Re: English Domestic Season 2022
Yeah, a record in FC cricket for a century-less innings. A remarkable scorecard, with three 90-somethings, seven players passing 50 and everyone, including extras, making double figures (other than extras, a certain H. Amla was lowest scorer, he’ll never make it!)JGK wrote:Surrey just scored 671 runs with No centuries.
Now the big question (probably after a day and a half of batting for his team-mates, on this road) is whether World Cup Jr. can turn his Henry VIII into a Liz Taylor.

In terms of selectorial nudges… 238 for Keaton Jennings. 142 for Tom A. Belf. Pope and Foakes both in the 90s as per above.
