Re: English Domestic Season 2022
Gilchrist breaks his runless run. Promoted to 10 for some reason Must be an injury, unless they’re just trying to boost his confidence!

5 for Gilly in the end… boosts his seasonal average even if not his career one!

A player for the strange names thread: Felix Organ; I notice he's made a century opening, but then again, so did Sibley and Burns.
By the way, Brett D’Oliveira is 30 now and captaining Worcs this season. A handy leg-spinning all-rounder who never quite made it to international standard with bat or ball but, like his late father, a solid county pro. I’ve seen him open the batting in T20s before.
Brett had hard time of it early in his career when a few people unfairly thought he owed his place in the side to the name.

Well it’s always a lot of pressure and expectation to live with, especially a third-generation player… the name obviously opens doors (though not as much as in motorsport!) but eventually a player’s own abilities will tell.Basil wrote:beamer wrote:It hasn’t been typical English early-season fare… maybe down to unusually dry weather. Agreed, by the way - Jack Haynes looks a much better player than his old man.

Gavin - played for us in the 90s. Retired early due to a chronic knee condition.

Re: English Domestic Season 2022
They still needed 161 after tea. I didnt think they could do that if NZ bowled tightly. But they decided to bowl wild short stuff and it was 6s galore. 1 ball went for 4 off Bairstows helmet. I think 60 came off the first 5 overs, and it became quite easy after that. Perhaps all the bouncers Broad bowled at the tailenders got to them and they wanted to get some back. It was like watching a T20 suddenly break out in the middle of a test match.

Re: English Domestic Season 2022
Warwickshire aka Brummie Bears set a new T20 Blast record with 261-2 v Notts… who are in contention chasing it at halfway!
Essex also rack up a club record 244 against Sussex, beating their total against the same opponents in the Napeshit match back in 2008.

Just watching Leics’ 17-year-old leg-spinner (well, googly bowler, mainly) Rehan Ahmed demolish Durham with 4-22 in a T20. He played in the U19 World Cup final earlier in the year.
Scott Borthwick batting 10 He was next cab off the rank for England’s top order at one time, and previously played a Test as a specialist spinner.

Bumble’s certainly missed in the T20s, I wonder who will do the mascot race this year?

And sure enough, Barnard has signed for Warwickshire, probably soon to be followed by Moeen.

Re: English Domestic Season 2022
Incredible stuff from Somerset in the T20 Blast QF last night. They racked up a competition record 265-5 before bowling Direbyshire out for 74!
Leg-spinner Mattie McKiernan went for a men’s T20 record of 82 runs, including a 36-run (seven-ball) over. Opening seamer Scrimshaw bowled four overs for 16 - had he gone at the same rate as the others, Somerset would have topped 300!

Scrimshaw has got a gig with the Lions this week. He's an ex-Pear and seems to have kicked on since his move to Derbyshire.

T20 finals day, a bit earlier in the season than usual. In the Roses Match first semi, Lancashire making the most effortless chase of 200+ I’ve ever seen in this format.

Re: English Domestic Season 2022
And Lancs seemed to have the final sewn up before Hampshire’s bowlers got them right back into it. Needed 4 off the last ball for a winning tie, Nathan Ellis hit the stumps with a perfect yorker, the men in yellow celebrated as fireworks went off…. and the umpire signalled no-ball!
Fortunately for Ellis and Hants he got it right again with a slower ball which was a yes-ball, and they held on for a one-run win. Hampshire clearly had their name on it… spirit of Shane?

Excellent bowling from Aussie Dan Worrall for Surrey v Essex in current County game.
He returned figures of 6-56 and 5-66.
