"Maybe next time I should just run the 200m or the 100m alone. My form was going backwards. I wasn't running upright. It wasn't a good race but it was a fast one."

Re: Usain Bolt
just as a point of interest, when was the last time that the 100m world record was less than half of the 200m world record?

Re: Usain Bolt
that tells me that usain can definitely lower the 200m a lot more if he concentrates on just one run

Re: Usain Bolt
If that's going backwards, I think next time he should add the 400m, long jump, both hurdle events and the decathlon to his schedule...

I'd like you to tell us all what the ""perfect" style of running is.
Watch a tape of Jesse Owens,as perfect as possible.(No this is not just my thought)

vilkrang wrote:I keep watching replays of this run. The most insane thing is that he seems to visibly slow up on the final straight, like he is tired.
Destroying world records when one is tired is rather a good effort.
Just for the record,When an athlete breaks a world record he or she gets an enormous payout, and at one time also a new car,..Sergi Bubka, the Russian pole volter madethe best of this rule by beating his own world record many many times by raising the bar by one centimetre at a time, consequentially winning numerous world records.my feeling is that this is what Bolt will be aiming to do,(good luck to him.).....Bolts fastest time would have left Lewis(doing his fastest time)more than five metres behind him, ...hard to imagine eh.

Re: Usain Bolt
raising the bar a centimetre at a time is a lot easier than cutting time while running flat-out
unless he is ridiculously good and can run it in 9 seconds

Agree, but it was also clear that he didn't smash the record so badly that he couldn't beat it again.

Re: Usain Bolt
Why doesn't he run the 400 as well? If he's that far ahead at the halfway mark and slowing down.

He's only 23 as well. When do sprinters peak? 29? It's scary that he has the potential to get even faster.

pure physical peaks are closer to 22 than 28

Re: Usain Bolt
By f*ck that bloke is amazing. 5 of them ran under 20s and he looked so far ahead of them it was like a decathlon heat with one bloke who previously specialised in 200m.
Astounding.

I think his PB is about 1 second of WR time but still very competative. He's talked about being tired and not wanting to double up so unless he goes solely for the 400 it's unlikely he'd do it at all

His PB is 45.15, which is no great shakes by any stretch of the imagination. Unless it's to say, oh and his PB in the 400 is 45.15 - not bad.
Re: Usain Bolt
I'm still on the fence about him being a freak or juicing up on something, but I'd like to see someone do the 1,2,4 triple in my lifetime.

Soz spang, I mean - let us laud him for his stellar achievements (what a great man). Let us not start some sort of journalistic-style gang bang where we just say things like "Well, he can putt the shot over 26 metres whilst banging two midgets and signing autographs".

They wouldn't even need to do it at a single meet (which I think is now basically impossible) for that to be an astonishing achievement because 400m running is quite different to 100m running. Bolt is about 2s off the 400m WR so I don't think he could realistically do that.
But then again, I never thought I'd see a 9.59 or 19.19 either.

I think you have to be a technically better runner than Bolt is, he's just unleashed speed and power...

Putting the shot 26m whilst banging two midgets and signing autographs isn't that special, I think you set you bar for greatness a bit too low

Bolt ran that time when he was still a teen and I don't think that he has ever trained for the 400m

Re: Usain Bolt
Jamaica's second string scraped into the relay final, landing Bolt and co with a crap lane. Does that rule out the world record? I thought they would have at least put Powell out there for the heat to make sure they got a decent time.
