Re: Usain Bolt
Athletics has never been so exciting. For him to be on drugs would be the final nail in the coffin for 100/200m sprinting.
But for now I'm not going to be cynical. He gets tested so much and due to their testing procedures of holding on to samples for long periods of time, if he is cheating then we WILL find out.
I don't think he is though, I think he is just the athletic equivalent to Michael Jordan or Roger Federer.

I don't ever remember an athlete competing in the 100.200,& 400 at the same time in their careers,Johnson's were 200,& 400,but he was never "world class"at the 100...I say that very loosely.

Re: Usain Bolt
I think Johnson got close to 10 flat for the 100m but as you say, he would never have focussed on it. I've no doubt he could have been a sub 9.90 100m runner though.

Re: Usain Bolt
The thing is Bolt isn't really built like a 100m runner. He must have a chance of breaking the 400 record. Though it's not as sexy to sponsors as the 100 so I'm probably dreaming.

Just looked it up - Johnson's official 100m best was 10.09 in 1994. He would have come close to beating that in the first 100m of the Atlanta 200m final!

Isn't the max speed reached at about 150m, thus that bullshit match race all those years ago.

Re: Usain Bolt
I read somewhere (might have been some SMH journalist) that Bolt's double WR in the 100/200m at the Beijing Olympics and exactly a year later at the World Champs is the equivalent of winning the tennis grand slam two years in a row.
Not that I would know, but IMO the tennis slam would be much harder.

No world record. TAYPOC.
Good bronze for Britain, adds to one of our better championships for a while.

What did we get in the end? 2 Golds & 2 Bronze? Athletics is really tough to dominate these days the medals are really spread out.

Re: Usain Bolt
Yes that's right, I think there's one or two more possibles on the final day. I think they were hoping for 5 medals as an ambitious target - that is good going these days given the dominance of Kenyan and Ethiopian runners in the men's distance events and the Jamaicans in the sprints. Last time Britain got two or more golds was 1993.JKLever wrote:beamer wrote:No world record. TAYPOC.

Good stuff from T & T to finish 2nd in the men's 4 x 100m relay with a national record. The Jamaicans are just ridiculously good though. It doesn't matter if you manage to keep up with Bolt (as Daryl Brown did) because Asafa Powell will just run away from you at the end.

Got 6 in the end.
2 Silvers on the last day - 4x400 & Lisa Dobriskey in the 1500m

The fluke was he did it on one leg and only cleared one height.

Aye - I didn't intend any disrepsect to Hooker who is obviously the best in the world at what he does (all with the disability of being a ranga).
But the circumstances of the gold were a surprise.

Re: Usain Bolt
Bolt's 100m world record was one of the most breathtaking events I've ever watched on TV I think.
Didn't see his Olympic Gold live which I think probably added to the drama for me this time round.
