We've done this before. 6 is a low number.

Oh! FFS! I meant a proper all run six. Not one where the ball's stuck up a cow's arse or something, no forests, no wench sticking it down her front.
I know about CB farking Fry!

We've got a record of an all-run nine in my club history, apparently without anything like that. Seems rather hard to credit, I agree, but that's what is claimed. One of the players involved played in the very first Test match too, by way of trivia.

Why do you say it's unlikely?lardbucket wrote:It wouldn't be six byes even if deep third man tipped a wide beamer from harmi over the third man fence.
Unlikely, I know.

Re: Usain Bolt
I keep watching the replay, have watched 100M finals religiously since 1992 and it's difficult to fathom how insane that time is. I thought awhile back that maybe in my lifetime I would see someone run sub 9.7 but sub 9.6 is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.
It's difficult to not talk about drugs but I really like to think that he's just an incredibly gifted individual making the absolute most and then some with the talent he has.
Would be so gutted if it turns out that he's using performance enhancing drugs.

I saw an interview saying he'd absolutely have loved to have been a fast bowler but the other kids he played with would laugh at him because his run up was about twice as fast as his actual delivery.

Still only been beaten once I think, or at least Mike Powell's record that finally broke it still stands.Bradman wrote:Beamon was a freak allied to favourable atmospheric conditions. That record should never have been broken.
You wonder what Bolt could do if he turned his efforts to long jump, I mean Carl Lewis won Olympic titles at that event as well as the sprints, and if you're that fast then technique is probably not that important as long as you can take off behind and reasonably close to the board!

Technique is pretty crucial in Long Jump because getting the max hang time is not a natural thing for a sprinter.
Lewis was a freak to be able to do both so well for so long.

it's highly unlikely, does Jamaica even have sports research labs of scale compared to some yank/canadian ones.

Re: Usain Bolt
Bolt looks pretty clean when you compare his physique to say, Ben Johnson.
I wasn't suprised in the slightest when Johnson was disqualified back in Seoul, but I would be suprised if Bolt turned out to be dirty (I'm not saying I'd be "shocked", but that's more to do with the history of the sport rather than Bolt himself).
Even if he is on the juice how much of an advantage is it giving him? This guy is winning races by a gazillion gillion zillion miles with his eyes closed. Drugs alone can't make the margin that big surely?.
I say we sit back and marvel that a human being is running 100 metres in 9.58 seconds. It's nice that some things out there still have the capacity to amaze us.

Certainly hope Usain is clean. But he worries me with that Flo-Jo like acceleration from the 70m mark.

Re: Usain Bolt
Given that he is the 200m WR holder too it's not surprising that he is stronger near the end of the 100m than others and therefore appears to be accelerating at 70m.
Can't wait to see what he can do in the 200m. It's not beyond the realms that he could eventually do a 19 flat.

Bolt being dirty would probably be the end of any respect people have for the 100m.
It's largely due to the cheats before that the current lot are tarnished.

The testing procedures are so good and water tight these days though, aren't they? It's hard to imagine someone being able to get away with anything.

Re: Usain Bolt
No such thing as watertight testing procedures. And Jamaica have been criticised in the past for their out of competition testing regime.
In any case, the cheats are always ahead of the testers, simply by the nature of things. The biggest advance they've made is in holding on to the samples so that tests can be carried out retrospectively. It makes it extremely difficult to get away with it over the longer term, and thus discourages people from cheating - because there's every chance they will be caught eventually and stripped of titles retrospectively.
The Flo-Jo one is a definite case in point - that no-one has got remotely near her world record for more than 20 years is peculiar to say the least.
