Of course, if punting were that easy I would be home in bed and not be avoiding work by stuffing about on here

Bossy was on Brisvegas radio on Friday - said if he wasn't on his donkey he'd want to be on Viewed. Being a sm@rt@rse I ignored him given all the BS I have been told by jockeys in the past. But then I forgot the most important thing - they weren't coming back to scale having flogged the chances of some future can of Pal that I had an interest in having assured me before the race to put the house on it as it was a sure thing.

The way the handicapper was talking this morning I think he might lift Viewed above 58.

Would be a shame - if you had the last 2 winners fighting it out as equal top weights it could be the most interesting MC since the Diva went for her 3rd.

Viewed gets 1kg

REIGNING Melbourne Cup champion Viewed has joined 2007 winner Efficient as equal top-weight for next month¿s Melbourne Cup.

The Bart Cummings stayer was handed a 1kg penalty by Racing Victoria Ltd chief handicapper, Greg Carpenter, today after his convincing victory in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup.

Along with Efficient, he will lump 58kg in the Cup.

In the past 30 years, only Makybe Diva in 2005 has won the race with 58kg.

"The win of Viewed on Saturday confirmed him as one of the great stayers of the modern era, he was already high up in the Melbourne Cup weights and his new weight of 58kg represents an increase of 5kg on his Cupwinning weight in 2008," Carpenter said.

"I was also mindful the Cup is a new challenge for Viewed with Efficient, Speed Gifted and Alcopop, last-start winners of the Turnbull Stakes, Metropolitan Handicap and Herbert Power Stakes respectively set to run, along with a second wave of international entries."

So is Bart going to run it in the McKinnon? It's what he normally does though it'd have to lug 59kg(?).

Has to be something to make it interesting. Seems strange that there is no "Best ever Overseas horse to race in the cup" for the media to bang on about this year.

Indeed.

I couldn't believe how many people still fell into the trap and tipped the O/S quinella in the CC.

Much more profitable to simply ignore them

Wasn't that Gai Waterhouse scare mongering or trying to convince the handicapper to throw the grandstand on the import's backs?

I seem to recall she banged on about European stayers being fifty lengths better.

She's probably right, it's just that travelling stayers half way around the world appears to be a bit hit or miss and getting Europeans who can cope with our stop start style of racing is even more difficult.

Shades of Cathy Freeman. That horse had the whole country riding on it's back. I still remember the footage of rival; trainers cheering her on when she nade her move.

Our Cathy has entered the golf lexicon hereabouts. You'll hear her name used following a less than beautiful shot that will nevertheless run like buggery.

yep. The other version of a Kate is "a bit fat, but otherwise perfect."

BTW turned around in the pro shop last saturday morning & walked right into Thommo looking right proper disheveled.

He had golf gear on, washed & then carefully crushed with a face like half an orange after it's been through the process on one of those old hand juicer things. Not attractive.

Well that's not as bad as the term used by some golfers when their ball is dead up against a tree. They call it a Peter Brock.

To get this thread back on track and away from this distasteful path - it's a bl00dy uninspiring Cox Plate feild this year.

The main contenders have raced each other so much over the spring it has the feel of just another race.

Hopefully Bart can work his genius with the 3 year old
