Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
Chief is frowning with 2 out of 4 so far. Not happy that the Worriers went to sleep on her. And I did tell her that the the Drags were not only due a loss but had more than half their regular 1st team side missing.

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
Drags continue their SoO collapse v Nags tonight. Started well with a good try then had another disallowed by a bee's dick. Then Brisvegas piled on 3 tries before some Soward brilliance got 'em back to 14-10. But the Donkeys did enough to get the points in the end 21-14. Dragons likely to lose top spot to the resurgent Coastal Filth, who'll smash the woeful Slimeys.
Drags have now dropped 5 points out of 8 in the past 4 games. Told the Chief to go with the Nags but she stuck with the Drags. 0-1 and not happy.

At least you didn't tell her to back them at 13+. Almost got kicked out of the bar during the last minute.

I got that one as well. I doubt if we will hear from Nath this round.
Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
Ooh, dunno about that. His boys thumped the sh!tty Suns today in the AFL so he might be in a good mood and willing to still slag the Bunnies off.

That's the spirit, Nath.
Chief not happy. Panthers let her down v Coal Chewers. 1-2 and falling back in her comp.

She initially tipped the Knights but "had a gut feel" and changed. She should've also listened to my "The Drags are no hope." Oh well.
She's got the Cows up v Worriers so is at 2-2.

Commonsense prevails. Unlike the current round that saw the Broncos and the Drags playing 2 days after SoO2 and two poorly represented teams having the bye.

So they're still bowing to the tv networks and sh!tting on the players and fans? Pissweak.

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
And nice to see agreement can't even be reached on something really simple. There's been talk for years about copying the UK SL idea of all teams at one stadium on one weekend. I never believed they'd do it because the various bodies in the game hate each other too much, and here's the compromise.
File under B for Big Fkn Woopee.
And in a further change to programming, the NRL is planning a blockbuster weekend of rugby league early in the season with a double-header and two triple-headers.
On the Friday night, two games will be played at Eden Park, the super stadium in Auckland that holds a crowd of 55,000.
On the Saturday afternoon and evening, a triple-header will be played at Suncorp in Brisbane involving the Broncos, Titans and North Queensland Cowboys.
And on the Sunday afternoon and evening, ANZ Stadium will stage a triple-header involving six traditional Sydney rivals.
File under B for Big Fkn Woopee.

And from the COARIAB files, it seems that because the Test will get a stand alone weekend, the season will start a week earlier.
This means there'll be a clash with the triangular cricket one-day series, which is due to finish on the same weekend as the NRL hopes to begin its season.

Gallop made it very clear that was never on. I guess it's a CA-like compromise.Zat wrote:Werent they calling for SoO on stand alone weekends? This is a shitful idea.

So what the fans want, the players want, and the clubs want, and what would be best for the game, is ignored because the NRL still wants to sell itself out.

so who will be the 3 teams drawing the short straw to play at Eden Park?

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
It would make more sense to go for the 'carnival' weekend concept with all teams at the same venue every year, but rotate it around the league. Let Sydney host it every second year, with other cities getting it on the off years.
e.g.
2012 Sydney
2013 Brisbane
2014 Sydney
2015 NZ
2016 Sydney
2017 Melbourne
2018 Sydney
2019 Canberra
2020 Sydney
2021 Newcastle
2022 Sydney
2023 Townsville
2024 Sydney
2025 Gold Coast
2026 Sydney
2027 Penrith or Wollongong if really necessary.
But that would involve foresight, planning, a long-term vision and a willingness to share the spoils of the game. So it'll never happen.
And Gallop was on Grandstand this afternoon categorically denying the possibility of standalone origin on Saturday nights. Apparently he thinks League fans are up there with IPL spectators in terms of attention span.
They could make Origin weekends something really special. Develop a 'junior origin' series to play on Friday nights, drawn from the Toyota Cup. Let the Kiwis play 'North v South' or 'Maori v Pākehā or NZ v Pacific Islander origin matches on Sundays.
Please tell me this supposed independent commission (which seems to be taking forever to arrrive) won't include navel-gazers when it's up an running.

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
I guess the one good thing about the current SoO schedule is that it stopped Brisbane from winning the comp every year. You could guarantee the Nags' wheels falling off at this time every year due to half their team being in the Cane toad side. The Drags are feeling the wrath of SoO this year.

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
Of course, if the salary cap was properly policed, and ensured a truly equal footing across all clubs, instead of varying levels of third party payments meaning the Nags effectively have double the cap of almost every other club, that wouldn't be as much of an issue.
