Aye. The Balkan persona will explode in a plethora of mediocrity and flapping hands.

Tomic looks like being toast. So it's down to Sammy Stosur.

What did I tell you? The gallant, beautiful, courageous English girl levels it.
(Well, actually a mixture of Kiwi double double-faulting and a crooked Hawkeye decision, but never mind ..)

I have to say, irrespective of whether he goes through or out, Gasquet has a lovely old-fashioned style. Not short of power. But with his long lines, aesthetic slices and follow-throughs, he's a swashbuckling cavalier standing out among the herd of contemporary cowpunchers. Like Fed with extra panache.
I could imagine most of the girls and a few of the boys would blow a Gasquet if they had a chance.
But only if he wins.

Re: The Wimbledon Thread - anyone for tennis?
Well, Robbo holds on.
A nerve-addled performance on both sides. Maybe the notorious swirling breeze of #2 Court had something to do with the diciness on serve. But mainly knicker-kacking by both women, I suppose.
On the face of it, you wouldn't back LR to go much further. But I suspect she longs to play someone ranked higher than her again. Typical English trait: much prefer to be nothing-to-lose underdog than fancied top dog.

One more unseeded opponent for her to beat for a QF against Serena...PeterCS wrote:Well, Robbo holds on.

Man alive, that Miss Licky is one fit woman. (Fit in both senses.)
If she gets the measure of Stosur's dipping backhand slices, the pocket Brunnhilde from Poland/Germany will send the gurning Aussie to Valhalla on a one-way ticket.

Well done Miss Licky!
I think basically Serena was driven back ( and taken aback ) by the weight of shots she kept having to field. Usually she does that to others.

Really is anyone's now. All the quarter-finalists will feel they have a chance of lifting the trophy. Shame Laura Robson's not one of them but a decent run for her to build on.

In all these upsets no one's bothered to let Serena taste the same medicine. Disappointing.
