Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
Congrats to Lancashire. They may talk like retards, but at least they can play cricket.

Well done Lancs, at least that saves me having to listen to Knight going on about his 'warwickshire' boys.
Ok, so Allott will but at least you know he's been a supporter as well as a player for nudging 50 years.....

Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
The captain (5-time runner-up!) and the set of bowlers definitely deserved it. ~ The batsmen finally came alive at the end of the season. Just in time!
You might say Lancs won it by default - partly true - but there was a lot of honest endeavour, based on the input of mainly local lads. (Including two Yorkies, but they're local. And have been with lancs for ages.)
Risking ridicule (I don't care! ), plaudits to Peter Moores too. Out of his depth with the egomonster management (and perhaps strategy) needed at national level, he has moulded and encouraged a squad without big stars - of late no overseas player, and only S Moore a buy-in - to think and work and hunt as a team.
Much like at Sussex, though Keedy and Kerrigan have shared the Mushtaq role, Steven Croft and others have alternated (not always convincingly) at Murray Goodwin, and Chapple has not looked remotely like Grizzly but shared the drive (and he has led more by personal example than growling from slip, I think).
Shared title apart, 77 years .... not since Eddie Paynter, George Duckworth, and Franks Booth and Watson. Even before Washbrook's emergence. Amazing.

Yeeesss! Congrats Lancs. Congrats Pete. Congrats Growls. Enjoy it men, bask in the glory!
Troughton was incredibly magnanimous, top man.
As for Moores, agreed. A total arseclown at international level. Possibly nearing genius at county level. Can't say I'm displeased for him either, I'm really glad KP assassinated him but am pleased he's been able to rectify his career.
Pete, 10 wins isn't 'by default'!!
As for Walt, bit of a nob but his heart's in the right place - he was genuinely choked up as a diehard like him should be. Brilliant stuff all in all.

Well done Pete - I must admit I didn't see this coming at the end of play yesterday. Cracking effort to chase those runs down.

Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
But I didn't do anything .....
Thanks, Baz and Danny, and also Mr JK. Accepted on behalf of those who did the work.
Only one fly in your ointment for the couple of days, Basil:
Worcestershire safe: check
Warwickshire fall short: check
The Renegade fails to enjoy any success whatsoever after abandoning the county that nurtured him: bugger!
I didn't see that turnaround coming either. I doubt many but the absolute Lankaholics did (meaning: after alcohol - few Lancastrians are entirely sanguine about the prospects for their CCC when sober, too many bad experiences, too much aversion therapy to optimism).
That is the game of cricket, a sea change in one day.
As Dinah Washington used to sing, on that score: ........

Bloody hell, they look the worse for wear already!
Well, apart from the effort, it was a day of unbearable tension I suppose! And I would not begrudge any of them anything short of a pedalo.
(But then, that was a response to despondency lows rather than joy highs.)

If you mean Moore, I don't honestly mind - in fact good for him, particularly after that horrible shoulder injury he suffered last year. Just don't get me started on Kabir Ali and Batty, that's all!

That's good grace. You were virtually throwing his genitals to the dogs (not literally) when he did the dirty!

I honestly don't remember being too scathing about Moore - he merely exploited a clause in his contract that allowed him to look elsewhere if we got relegated, which we did in 2009.
Kabir Ali is different class, however, he was quoted in the local rag as saying that he would see out his contract to 2010 but would then review his options - fair enough. Within a month he had slapped in his request to be released. Disengenuous qunt.
Still, all those scars have healed over - and whatever we did on the field to stay up this year, it was backed by a superb team spirit.

Somerset are batting and batting yawns so far. This should be a pearler though, hats off to CC - first the exciting finish in the FC stuff and then easily the two best List 'A' sides competing in the final of the giggles. Seriously, top stuff CC!
Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
Aye, struggling to remember a better last day of the CC in recent memory. Even halfway through the day I still thought it was a tough ask for Lancs.

Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
Aye, although as I said, I think the last three final days in a row have been pretty top notch. Really think this two tier system has injected real life into it - that, along with a much more professional blanket training regime the counties adhere to. 'Healthy' is probably the words I'd use for the set-up now. Will still a lot of room for improvement.
Re: County Cricket 2011 Season (III)
Half arsed attendance though. Gone are the glory days of OD cricket finals in county cricket...
