SA definitely in the ascendancy. Notice the ball occasionally keeping low.
Well done to the centurions!
Kallis is having an interesting summer!
He and Punter are going ton for ton atm.

Not bad for a batsman who's finished. On the wane. Too old. Done for. Technically shot. Kaput. Should be dropped. Eyes have gone.

Must admit that Petersen hasn't really convinced yet. He doesn't strike one as particularly reliable. Maybe time to try a younger guy like Elgar now that Rudolph is establishing himself at #6.

Brass Monkey wrote:So, I couldn't sleep last night (too much tea I think). I turn on the cricket, they were discussing how to get Graeme Smith out. Here's the paraphrase (can't remember verbatim, but it's close):
Ian Smith: Well, I'd pack the on-side field (five positions) and bowl straight, threaten the wickets.
Craig McMillan: I wouldn't...
Ian Smith: ... DID YOU EVEN CAPTAIN NEW ZEALAND? HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU CAPTAIN NEW ZEALAND???
Craig McMillan: Around 5 ODIS..
Ian Smith: SO YOU NEVER CAPTAIN NEW ZEALAND IN TESTS? WELL THEN!
**Simon Doull nervously laughs**
Craig McMillan: So that means I'm not entitled to an opinion?
**at this point, you see some producer semi-jostle Ian Smith**
Ian Smith: WELL WHAT WOULD YOU DO THEN?
Craig McMillan: Well, how did New Zealand get him out in the first innings? Keeping it full and wide. I'd do that all day.
**Chris Martin then rolls in, bowling a full and wide delivery to no avail**
Ian Smith: Yeah, THAT worked.
**Simon Doull nervously laughs**

WTF is wrong with Ian Smith nowadays? He's totally lost his f*cking marbles.
Was amused with their anger over Rudolph's DRS challenge. You could hear their incredulity over the whole process. They get harping on about it but the gem was.
"I suppose he is entitled to challenge."

Petersen did pretty OK in the CC last year, has decent knowledge of conditions to draw upon. I'd be surprised to see a fledgling in there.

Didn't see that one, or the part Taips mentioned, but although it's sort of funny it's also making it more of a chore to watch. I'm writing an e-mail to Sky NZ to complain.

I think my favorite was the first day when Martin chased one to the boundary. By the time he reached it, the ball awas trickling and it was debatable whether it would have reached the rope. He was then lauded for his brilliant fielding.

Yep, 37 and still the world's best fielder, or is that Guptill?

Galloptill?
NZ have such a small base of players, they miss everyone who's injured much more than other countries. Whether a Shane Bond or a Jacob Oram (who I think was underrated - trouble was though, he was out injured almost more often than he played). And now Jesse Ryder ... though not entirely an injury in his case.
Coming back to this Test, it's all pretty much one-way traffic now, it would seem.
The Kuywuys had their chance in the First Innings, and blew it (with some help from Philander and Kallis, it's true!). They haven't kept up any momentum from the early breakthroughs in SAf's second, and don't appear to have the player resources to compete with ball or bat once that happens. I expect a bit of fight from Vettori and one or two others, but the game has taken its decisive turns, I think. Well played to Kallis and especially the renascent Smith.

Smith hit a few shots of 'Phwoar!' calibre... one on drive in particular made me wonder whether to get my knob out.

With a "FOUR!" sign attached to it?

Smith is probably one of the greatest 2nd innings players of all time.

Fourth innings (where he has some record) or just second innings?
Anyway Proteas right on top now.
Only problem for them might be batting on too long with dodgy NZ weather!

Don't, the extreme bias is amusing in its own way.
Also with that Rudolph decision they get going on how it took from the bowler's moment and it was such an anti-climax for hum. They then failed to acknowledge that Rudolph actually wasn't out. They were more than happy with DRS when McCullum received two reprieves under this system.

I think SAf have almost reached the point already where they can start to use the long handle - another 50/60 without losing more than one more wicket and that is certainly the case - so barring storm or earthquake (oops), they must be very good odds-on.

Rudolph joins the ton party.
Seems a long time now since the moans about him being reintroduced, and scratching around as an opener at first.
5 or 6 is his more natural slot.
