First scoreless draw, but to be fair there were a lot of squandered chances.

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
Yeah, as 0-0 matches go it's been one of the better ones.
Whatever happens tonight I think a quarter final is about right, we would be punching above our weight if we did somehow sneak into the semis but if we do then we will get DICKED in the semi considering they have had 2 extra days of rest and the fact that they won their game in normal time.
But again, we'll be lucky if we do get through, Italy look the better team to me.

Following this Cricinfo style on Soccernet. Doesn't seem like England was in the game at all. But they hang on for pealties.

Overall Italy deserved it.
Gashly penalties.

Scored for Chelsea in the the shootout in Europe but farks it when it really matters.

But yes, Italy deserved to go through and although it's annoying that we seem to get worse at shoot outs the more we play, it wasn't a disastrous tournament and we have been spared the embarassment of getting battered by Germany (who I will be supporting from the semis).

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
We were lucky to get as far as we did. Ashley Young was woeful all night. Rooney was dire as well. Thought Glen Johnson's control and passing was peerless. I don't know if I've seen such a bad player at right back for England. Can defend though. Can't really blame Ashley Cole - he's been brilliant all tournament. The Germans would've torn us apart anyway.
Re: Euro 2012 Thread
Fair enough result given the game, thought England fought hard but this was just about as well as could be expected given that the squad is a mediocre one. We'd have been absolutely massacred in the semis.
Penalties again eh? Still, undefeated during the tournament.... moral winners?
I like this tweet...
'So far the finest rear-guard action since Mike Atherton's 185 not out in Johannesburg.'

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
It was a sh*t rearguard. Atherton was facing up to two possibilities - draw, or lose. England turned up against one of the weaker Italian sides of recent times and played for penalties. This might have been a fair tactic if England were good at penalties. Even taken as it was, the rearguard wasn't all that great. When subjected to that devious long ball over the top, it fell apart. If Balotelli wasn't so sh*t it would have been 6-0.
Yeah, it's fair to say there was no expectation. But England fans might have been entitled to see a little bit more than one of the worst tournament performances in a quarter-final ever. At least Greece gave it a go against Germany. England were just sh*t and the tournament has lost nothing by them going out. They were an insignificantly sh*t part of a decent tournament. If anything tonight was further education in how far English football is behind its rivals - even its lesser rivals.

In essence they carved us. Could've had three or four. Still when you're not picking up Pirlo and inviting pressure all night through Rooney and Young giving the ball away all the time, I'm not sure what else to expect. Mario was lucky to stay on the whole game, I thought he was pretty shite, but apart from him they all played really well. At least the semi will now be more hotly contested, from a purely footballing perspective.
Re: Euro 2012 Thread
All the blacks in England's team were sh*t as well. Get rid of them.

He was sh*t. Abate had him on toast. They were all sh*t. Henderson came on and didn't touch the ball except when he tried to kick it and mis-hit it. Why is he in the squad? He's crap. World Cup qualifiers in September. F*ck all the oldies and sh*tties off and replace them with a young group of players who will play the next four tournaments.

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
Does amuse me that the press always go on about how tired we look after a tournament. That'll be because we spend most of the game running after the ball...
Wonder what the FA will do? Pat itself on the back it made the QF's and were undefeated or realise if we want to progress further, our grass roots football needs to change?

Bollocks. Abate had him on toast when the midfield had lost possession and he was out of position having to clear up their shit.

It's doubtful they'll do a great deal. Got to hope this new football centre works its magic.

Why, what's wrong with grass roots? Grass roots is the elephant in the room. It's like with cricket when everybody blamed the convoluted, crowded county scene for England's failures. England's problem is cultural. England is a lazy, fat, useless, selfish culture and it produces sports teams in that image. Germany is a bright, wondrous, sexy, friendly culture and it produces sports teams in that image. England produces few good footballers and the ones it does produce don't improve once they pass 21 - see Wayne Rooney. This is down to idleness.

Milner and Ashley Young to again be utterly anonymous.
sadly for Ashley Young he will not be anonymous ...he and Cole have confirmed yet again the reasons why "Ashley" is a tosh name...
bad luck Pomgolians
