Durham. Pfft.
Four roads and whatever the OT building site throws up.

Because they've humourously included the possibility you may be in a cup final.

Would've liked Edgbaston in there myself, but its not a bad selection.

Wait a cotton picking... they're not having the first Test at Lord's?
This is bollocks...

Then they starting making it numero uno. I like that. I prefer that.
Once again, the ECB's failure to consult me on key issues has blown up in my face.
Re: Ashes 2013 fixtures announced
Notice they've omitted Cardiff where England narrowly avoided defeat and Headingley where they suffered an innings defeat last time, as well as Edgbaston where the short boundaries would have suited Warner and several other Aussie batters. The Riverside could be the most interesting match if the weather holds up. Blighty must still be slight favourites at present though.

I'd say we're very slight favourites (but this may change in a year)
Which is worrying because when did we last enter a series as favourites?

That's the funniest and craziest thing I've heard all year.
Re: Ashes 2013 fixtures announced
Durham's a decent wicket - usually they tank the road to make some cash, but if it's a usual match it's a competitive pitch.

Trent Bridge used to be the starting ground for most series and was so for the Ashes from its inception in 1899 (when it hosted W.G.'s last Test appearance and Wilfred Rhodes' debut) until 1964 (when it hosted Sir Geoffrey's first appearance).

Don't think England were favourites at the beginning of the tour, certainly not with the bookies.

Woohoo - Pears get a four day game against the Aussies - better than the glorified open net session of a two-day match we're having against SA.

The Pears have beaten the Aussies once out of 21 matches. When was that?

Indeed. Newport 11-127. Sadly not an augury for the Ashes series. Must have been a bit of a rough old strip:
Worcestershire v. Australians, New Road, Worcester, 13-14 May 1989

It did a fair bit - although Newport was more of a swing bowler rather than a seam bowler. Good times- we had a bit of a side in those days. The side that beat the Aussies in batting order:
Curtis
Lord
Hick
D'Oliveira
Botham
O'Shaughnessy
Rhodes
Newport
Illingworth
Radford
Pridgeon
Phil Neale wasn't playing as he had glandular fever. I assume Dilley was injured. Beefy was acting captain - quite possibly the only game we won when he did the job.

Yeah, Worcs were the side to beat around the turn of that decade. None of them managed to really cut it when they got an England call though. Although there was always the expectation of a revival built around the once in a generation talent of Graeme Hick once he qualified...
