There were plenty denying it happened. It was only after some other spectators and journalists confirmed it that the focus was then switched to, "It must've been the Saffie expats doing it," with some helpful types offering their much appreciated advice as to how to deal with it, including several rounds of, "There's nothing you can do about it, so just suck it up and stop whinging," and a couple of jabs of, "Smith's an arse anyway, he brought it on himself and deserves everything he gets."

As far as i can tell nobody ever proved what was said or who said it.

However i do tend to believe the players when they said they were abused, they can't prove it in court but so what?

I tend to believe symonds is telling the truth with this, its not enough to convict anybody but that doesn't mean it's a lie.

What I don't like is the whole dobbing issue. The Aussies like to dish it out and always say that what does on the field should stay on the field.

About ten years ago, Brian Lara and Robert Samuels were batting in a fine partnership at the WACA, when things got heated. Afterwards Lara said something to the media as to what derogatory comments the Australians made. The senior members of the Australian team blew up like it was Krakatoa all over again. Senior Waugh and Taylor in particular said that Lara should have shut his gob, and that he shouldn't have went to the media, instead he should have went to the dressing room afterwards to sort out the issues.

So I'm assuming in this instance, Ponting went straight to the media instead of going to the Indian's dressing room?

Actually, Ponting went to the umpires. It was reported in the media.

Singh is one of the biggest sledgers in the game, that's fine we have never reported him for sledging he was reported for racial abuse.

He didn't want to make a complaint in India or during this test, others did it for him.

He's just trying to do his job he can't help that his forefathers are of African origin, it doesn't warrant being abused while playing a game.
