Re: AFL 2022
lardbucket wrote:Well, that was unexpected. Especially pleased for Dangerfield (first Premiership EVER, having never won one even as a junior; Scott, who has been rubbished for years by opposition and even some Cats fans as a once-only Premiership coach who only won on the back of coaching by his predecessor; and Selwood, one of toughest and most selfless players I’ve ever seen. Rampe’s post-game speech was generous, and I particularly liked Scott’s acknowledgment of the assistant coaches now departed who had made such a massive contribution to the Geelong game plan - Scarlett, Enright, Knights, and others.
I was not confident of the win until the game was deep in the third quarter. Still can’t believe the result let alone the margin.
It was done earlier than that. The scoreboard pressure was there, but moreover, on the trend of play, the Swans had no hope. It was a massive mismatch.

Thank Warne for Robbie Williams...the Swans were woeful (a lot of credit to Geelongs pressure ) ...and the half time entertainers were inspired by Sydney
Gary Rohan proved me wrong ....I thought he only got a touch when his side was 10 goals up ...but he showed me that wasnt true

Also the first Gryan AND the first Miers ever to play in a Premiership team, and most likely the first Gryan ever to set foot on or inside the MCG for any reason,
There are stories on the SBM that in the under-12s he was dominating in the Grand Final until the other mob sent out a kid called David Jones to tag him

Amazing career from Selwood. He has a nice wife too, I taught her when she was in both Year 11 and 12.

Re: AFL 2022
The average age of Geelong footballers will fall by about 10% next year - and as a result, the average age of jokes on AFL pages on the SBM by about the same.
Applying S Bend clown maths to Red's last post, that makes her about 168 years old.

Just by way of comparison, Pendlebury and Selwood have almost played the same number of matches. While Duckwood, has been awarded 890 free kicks, Pendles has earned 436.

Well - Selwood's gone, Hawkins / Dangerfield might have another year or two. Tuohy and Rohan future unclear. Not much else in the "aged' department.
lardbucket wrote:Lid still firmly on but I don’t think they’re any more obviously ‘close to the end’ than they’ve been throughout the last 10 years. Close, De Koning, Henry, Stengel, and Atkins are all young enough and fast enough to cover those exiting stage left (Selwood, Dangerfield, Rohan, Kolo). Better balance this year than for a few years, and Cameron is a gun, so we’ll see.
Think we might still be thereabouts next year. Young guns came on even better than expected.

We Oz could all have an interest in the Finals 'cept for Nath (hawks)
Lardy - Cats
Red - Pies
Wally - Brisbane?
Embee - Tiggers
Skully, MrK Swans
Me - Bloods
The weird thing is that both Josh Kennedy's careers finished on the same day.
The Eagles guy retired at the perfect moment - kicking 8 in a turn back the clock moment. He got a well organised celebration. The Bloods Josh Kennedy who holds the record for winning contested ball ripped a hamstring in the 2s trying to get fit for the Finals. He was playing at the cesspit of the Arden St Oval (Norf's home ground).
Haven't seen horrie since; nor heard the worst, but concerned.

skully, note the above ...
also: which team will 'rebuild' to a Premiership first?
Hawthorn
Bulldogs
North Melbourne
St Kilda
Essendon
I'm assuming that Carlton is closer than any of the above mentioned struggling Victorian clubs.

AFL plays its favorite Moving Pictures song, and its unfailingly indulgent Mummy gives it a lollipop in the form of a Page 1 72-point headline with virtually no story underneath, just as we were all settling down to Oz v Argies in the FOOTBALL World Cup
They remind me of a line in the Robert Palmer song Johnny & Mary - '(Johnny) always needs the world to confirm he ain't lonely'

I see Jack Ginnipig was suspended for snorting coke. Two weeks. Not enough imo.
Must be close to the most despised of AFL Players.

It is though a bit like the situation when Big Ben was caught using drugs in the 1988 Olympics, Nobody was surprised he was on performing enhancers, they were only surprised he got caught. Subsquently every other participant in that race at one time tested positive to performing enhancing drugs.
Ginni was stupid enough to allow a member of the public to reach over a cubicle in a hotel toilet and film him. Apparently there are laws against this anyway.
I'm sure he will learn his lesson. He might be despised but he's copped a lot of heat for a youngster and not received frees he should have been awarded when he had his head pulled off.
Meanwhile poser Papley can push Moore in the back in the prelim and get away with it so that the Swans can kick their only goal in that quarter and win by a point.

Bailey Smith got two games for a similar offence and technically speaking the first offence, one strike doesn't have to come with a suspension.
In contrast Norf seems to be lenient in it consideration of Tarryn Thomas.

Ginnipig is despised by other players as well. Does not earn his own ball. Aside from Jo the Goose goals he had one trick of playing for frees. A blight on the game. Think other Clubs decided he would cop it and fair enough. The guy has head like a teenagers zit about to explode. Will be in and out of the Pie team this year as they have better players than this spud.

Papley is a bit of a showboater but generally seems a reasonable human.
Ginnivan seems to be a total wanker. Time Is on his side though when it comes to the possibility of rehab (drugs and wankery).

There is no doubt Jack can play the game and he seems basically harmless even if often irritating. He just needs to grow up. The 'piece of shit' role in this drama has to be the Martin Scorsese wannabee who poked his phone over the cubicle door.
