Re: T20 World Cup
Sorry for the Oz folk wgaf about T20.
As I understand it Marsh did not bowl, dropped a prodigious number of catches, made few runs. So for reasons completely unrelated to his name and really to keep him occupied, they made him captain. Cracking move.
Even Bunter Bairstow looked a smooth rapidly moving statue by comparison. There ya go Maddog. Would hate to disappoint you.

Re: T20 World Cup
Afghanistan getting through, is dare one say it. good for cricket! It was great seeing how much it meant to their players. Oz fielding was sloppy; perhaps this is age related to an extent. Interestingly last week onThe Back Page with Candice on the panel, they were extolling the virtues of going with Warner, but this call has hardly been vindicated. It was Fraser beserk time; horses for courses should have prevailed. And what are the odds that Davey will now write a tell all bk about Sanderpapergate?

Fair call, Red.
I wonder if Berserker could've made a difference to our eventual tournament outcome.
And guaranteed GCS will cash in with his version of Sandpapergate and it's aftermath.

Re: T20 World Cup
I’d be happy to hear of a Saffie or Afghani win, if a T20 win made their cricket fans happy, boosted their numbers, and stimulated overall interest in the sport in their respective countries.

Fark the Ghanis.
Eliminated us then embarrassed themselves in their first ever major semi. AO 59 to lose by 9 wkts to SAf.

Re: T20 World Cup
Still they did beat Oman, Namibia, USA, and the Windies  on an off day for the Gangas. I hadn’t realised that they’d reached the semi finals of this prestigious tournament on the back of that record but a friend has just pointed out to me the draw Bunter and his mates were gifted.

Just saw the Highlights. What a dreadful, head-in-the-air shot the Ginger Whinger played to get bowled for a duck.

Good for us Bannie "haters", but less good for the prolongation of the great SAffie choker thread.
BTW, was at an Indian restaurant last night for the partner's birthday, and enthusiastically signed off a fine night of dining by thanking our hosts and loudly proclaiming "Go India in T20 WC semi". The hosts were all cricket fans and were most appreciative.

Re: T20 World Cup
What a win!
Bumrah is incredible. Best bowler I’ve seen from India in four decades of watching the game , easily.
His place in the game as a whole remains to be seen, but he’s surely must be on track for Great status.

And gotta say it, South Africa choked.
They should have won at 30 needed off 30 and Klassrn/ Miller at the crease.

Re: T20 World Cup
Welcome back, beams. It'd be nice if you stayed.
And wow, the Yarps continue the greatest choke theme in World Cricket.
They were 4-151 in the 16th needing 177 (that's just 7 an over required). Klaasen had 50 and with Miller, were approaching a 50 run "winning" stand for the 5th wkt.
But as only SAf can do, they gargled from there.
Congrats to the Bannies.

Re: T20 World Cup
It seems there was a bit of controversy at the death.
After two brilliant overs from Bumrah in the 18th and Arsedeep in the 19th that conceded just 2 and 4 runs, SAf needed 16 off the last over to win, with 4 wkts in hand.
The 1st ball from Pandya was a full toss outside off which Miller pounded high towards the ropes. Yadav then completed a remarkable, and match-winning catch on the boundary. In a great running catch, he caught the ball inside the boundary, leapt the triangular rope guards, lobbing the ball back into play while in the air, and recovered to catch the ball inside the ropes. SAf then couldn't make the required 16 in the remaining 5 balls. India win!!
However, there are numerous online posts that suggest two things. One: Yadav's left foot possibly nicked the rope guard as he tossed the ball up back into play but replays weren't conclusive. But more importantly, a long camera angle showed the ropes were pushed well back from the white painted boundary line.
If the ropes were in the correct position, Yadav would not have been able to take his remarkable catch, Miller would have scored 6, and SAf would've needed 10 runs off 5 balls.
SAf continue to find amazing ways to choke!!

Re: T20 World Cup
Fantastic result. Clearly the two best sides this tourney and a final to match.
Bumrah is magnificent. Don't think there's been a better white ball bowler in the last 20 years. Klaasen is a beast.
It's not a great choke imo. They were light on batting and Klaasen getting out exposed them to it. Jansen got out to Bumrah, which is understandable. Maharaj taking a single on the last ball of the over to keep strike was the one very bad decision they made.
Rohit and Kohli both retiring from internationals on a high with great announcements. No unnecessary fanfare that would inevitably follow.
Good to see Nepal & PNG having good matches against SA & WI and Uganda get a win. Also pleased that Netherlands were shit.
Afghanistan were special. Especially given they were basically a team of 2 batsmen and little else.
I've been saying it for a while... I hope ODIs die completely. They're not as entertaining as T20s and not as good as tests. Becoming a bit like the decathlon of cricket and nobody new is playing competitively as well.

then Tests will be next because they're not as financially lucrative, and we'll be stuck with endless T20 muck
