I got one of those feelings when I woke up on the last day of the Adelaide test to hear on the radio "England are on the brink of defeat". I wasn't sure if I'd heard it correctly, but deep down somehow I knew that once again we'd snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Yes, I had missed most of the fifth day's play (it had appeared the game was petering out to a draw) - and just managed to catch a glimpse of Hoggard getting Langer out on a TV. It was WTF? Why is Hoggard bowling? Why are England not batting? How the heck have we managed to mess this one up!

Pity all of us who stayed up to watch England collapse then and had to wander in to various establishments the next day bleary-eyed and in my case a little tearful after watching that unfold, or rather, watching that collapse. Before then, I was an optimist, now I'm the pessimistic wreck you see before you today.
