Re: Your favourite sporting pictures...
I got one of those feelings when I woke up on the last day of the Adelaide test to hear on the radio "England are on the brink of defeat". I wasn't sure if I'd heard it correctly, but deep down somehow I knew that once again we'd snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.skully wrote:Just like me the next day. Went to bed feeling pretty smug after Punter's onslaught (it was a work day the next day) and just like Headingly 81, I just could not believe the result. I've only had a handful of those sick-in-the-stomach-when-you-hear-the-news feelings when it comes to the great game, but this was one of them.taipan wrote:Actually both my sons were at the game. Yes, I had missed most of the fifth day's play (it had appeared the game was petering out to a draw) - and just managed to catch a glimpse of Hoggard getting Langer out on a TV. It was WTF? Why is Hoggard bowling? Why are England not batting? How the heck have we managed to mess this one up!

Pity all of us who stayed up to watch England collapse then and had to wander in to various establishments the next day bleary-eyed and in my case a little tearful after watching that unfold, or rather, watching that collapse. Before then, I was an optimist, now I'm the pessimistic wreck you see before you today.

Imagine having to watch the rest of that car-crash unfold surrounded by Australians!

I'm not a Reds fan - this is just a great snapshot.

Shit - I spent about half an hour yesterday looking for that photo. I seem to recall it being more of a close up.
It's a great photo - beautifully captures the agony of being a sports fan.
Sit closer to the screen?
Agreed BTW - and not just because of the subject matter . . . positively dripping with emotion.

This one is quite iconic
Perhaps could do with an extra couple of close fielders in there though...

Great avatar too - love Johnno. So heart warming to see him back with us, and provides us with a pleasing link to much happier and more successful times.
And stick it where the sun don't shine, JKL!
