The first Toyota to lap the G before the Grand Final is fully booked, with Dusty Martin and Tom Hawkins both pulling the curtain on decorated careers, the Dustmeister immediately, the Gerry Gee lookalike at the end of his team's season. To both, congratulations and all the best in retirement.

(Except that every SBM idiot worth his spellchecker 'knows' in the way only SBM idiots can ever 'know', that Dusty is stocking up on suntan cream for the Gold Coast move even as we speak..... )

Another massive weekend coming up. AFL pundits are saying ‘10 into 8 won’t go’, so - presumably - they’re still giving Hawthorn and Collingwood (on 44) a chance, but not Essendon (on 46). Or it’s 11 into 8 won’t go. Even Melbourne could sneak in if all results go their way, but that’s very unlikely.

Swans v Collingwood, Suns v Melbourne, Carlton v Hawthorn and perhaps Freo v Cats are the most likely games this weekend to decide composition of the final 8. Losses to Collingwood and Hawthorn would place them on the precipice of elimination. A Melbourne loss would snuff out their remaining mathematical chance.

That was some comeback of Sydney v The Scum - almost enough to bring horrie back!

I think that almost seals Collingwood’s fate for the season.

Good news for Bombers fans - they won’t lose a final this year.

Looks like one team finishing on 56 points could miss finals on percentage. Carlton v Hawks today critical to final 8.

Interesting final round coming up.

Top 4 almost decided (Sydney Port GWS and Cats/Lions) … if the Cats beat WCE on Saturday, they’re in and will be off to Sydney in week 1; if they lose they’ll be somewhere between 5 and 8.

The bottom 4 isn’t quite decided with Cats/Lions in; and Dogs, Hawks, and Carlton only needing to win to secure a spot. The Dogs have the toughest assignment, and Carlton could struggle against the Saints ant Marvel if they play as well as they did on Saturday gone. Lose and they would be vulnerable to a Fremantle win over Port at home in the last roster game of the season. Only two of Dogs, Carlton and Freo will go through. Hawks have a free ride over the lamentable North.

Opinion now -  Sydney Port GWS Cats Lions Dogs Hawks and Carlton. Freo will miss out.

Sydney v Cats in Sydney
GWS v Port in Adelaide
Lions v Carlton at the Gabba
Hawks v Dogs at the MCG

… will the AFL allow three interstate finals?

Collingwood retain the Lloyd Christmas chance - if Carlton lose and they win by 100 points each, they sneak in.

For context: There have been seven 100 point hidings in the last two seasons, five issued to the excremental West Coast (but none to the lamentable North, whose 96 point mauling from the Dogs yesterday was their worst effort since 2022). Carlton have been beaten by the ton 16 times, 12 this millennium, once by the Saints (in 2004 - 9 to Gehrig, most on that legendary Blues full-back Brendan Fevola). Melbourne have not lost to Collingwood by over 100 since 1997, or to anybody since 2016.

Because AustralianFootball only lets you put one filter on at a time, I was not able to find the last time there were two 100+ muggings in the same round.

I think we can discount Collingwood, Fred.

The utter nightmare scenario for Carlton supporters - missing out with Collingwood or Essendon scraping in - just won’t happen.
