The utter nightmare scenario for Carlton supporters - missing out with Collingwood or Essendon scraping in - just won’t happen.
We're officially gone. Bit unlucky compared with Carlton because they played both bottom teams twice, and we played each once. We also beat the Blues twice. We wouldn't have too much chance of doing much damage so probably best to get a long pre-season which was truncated for us last summer.
My tip for the flag is the Giants if they play to their potential and enjoy a dollop of luck. Lions possibly stuffed their chances by losing a top four spot and its attendant benefits. Can't see the Cats getting defeated by the Bombres.

RIP HS & Foxtel footy scribe Sam Landsberger, in traffic accident in Bridge Road, aged 35.
By all accounts a trusted, liked and admired member of the AFL Media, a group of garcons not universally esteemed.
Condolences to his family, including his Dad who had been the club chief medico at the Bulldogs since forever, his colleagues and his friends.

Re: AFL 2024
Farewell to Collingwood and Melbourne for 2024. Two teams I had destined for the final 8, pre-season! Lots of pundits thought Collingwood would go back to back.

Dockers down by 1 point at half time. if they win or draw, they play finals and Carlton are out.

Richmond an Collingwood - innovative teams both, and almost equally loved - are the first two teams to be sitting at two losses after Round 1.
Sydney looking very useful this year. GWS too. Imagine the howls from Melbourne if it’s an all-Sydney GF …
Carlton seem to be back with no obvious weaknesses … Fred, could be your year.
Is it too early to say that Melbourne’s Premiership window is already closed?
Lots of experts predicting, pre-season, that Collingwood will again win the flag, Adelaide will be the big upwardly mobile team, Port and the Suns will contest deep into finals. the Hawks will win the spoon, my Cats won’t finish above 13th, Saints and Dogs alongside North, Bombers and West Coast as also rans.
My early (Round 1) prediction for the 8: Sydney GWS Brisbane Port Carlton Adelaide Suns and Collingwood … although I still hope my Cats can squeeze in there somehow.
So - no Adelaide, Suns, or Collingwood. Hawks in, Dogs in, and the Cats made it. Hawks and Dogs are the two form sides and one will eliminate the other in the first week, to the relief of the other 6 teams.

Happy, surprised. I thought the home ground and crowd would have carried Port. All the Cats played well, though.

One day it will sink in, although it's taken 10 years so far: Geelong are going nowhere.
And neither are Port.
And neither are Port.

Re: AFL 2024
But the Cats are just a mid-table team, all the experts agree ... only one of them was deemed good enough to make all-Australian selection.
"Too old, too slow. full of passengers".
They just have to scrap to compete.

Have to say though ... I haven't seen any player look as cooked as Charlie Dixon did last night, not for a long time. Surely that's his last game.
